Description
I composed an orchestral sountrack for a mainquest about a white dragon in a modern JRPG game.
Each of the 3 tracks represent a stage on that quest where on the first one, you would find that dragon at a dying stage - poisoned and weak.
The second track is after giving it the cure where the dragon rises in all its beauty - an impressive view!
The last track is where it asks the player to get on its back, rushes forward and take flight with a migthy swing, taking the player through the skies of an dangerous but beautiful fantasy world.
(Also described that in the projects page)
The third track was the main track for this jam i began writing after having the rough idea of what to do with the theme. First i wanted to do only this one track due to the time limit but than i thought it would be cool to have the soundtrack of a little questline instead of just having one, so i tried my best to manage to do that in the time i had.
For the main track i began with playing around with a piano to sketch a rough idea of the tracks chords and melodies. Then i thought about which instruments i want to use and chose a mix of darker mighty sounds that are heavy and have impact for that imagination of a big dragon, but also some light sounds from the piano and violin to have a victorious feel. I wanted that feeling of having the light of the flight bit also the heavyness of whats below and whats about to come (if this game was real :D)
For the other 2 Tracks (The first and second) i used alot of elements i already had and played around a little or rewrote them for other instruments to change the mood fitting to the stroy.
I used the DAW of my choice - Studio one, different sound libraries (mostly EastWest), a MIDI keyboard for sketching and rough playing.

Take Flight: Cool Phrygian feel. Love the choir that comes in.
The Cure: Bringing back the leitmotif but with a calmer second section.
Dying Soul: The motif in a more somber feel.
Great work!
Overall you did very well. I just wanted to second the opinion that a little bit more variety would be helpful.
This actually very much reminds me of a composition I did a while ago that sounded very similar and suffered from the same problem. It is very similar, including just reusing the same pattern as if it's a new voice.
If you have any instruments, just improvising music (no matter how many mistakes you make) can be a good way to train your mind out of getting stuck in those little traps. Writing music by typing it into a midi file always results in a certain type of compositional pattern I'm finding, where I can tell the ones who composed in that way, as that's how I used to compose. It suffers because your mind hears the music in real time, and it's just hard to place down the right notes. Even when I still go back to writing music in that method, it feels like I've not improved upon it.
All that out of the way.... The soul of your music is very good and my critique is only meant to be in service to helping that that spirit be expressed!
Thank you very much for the critique, its very valuably to me :D
When the percussion came in in take flight it really hit! I also really enjoyed the third track, though a part of me wonders if it could've been more in a minor key - to really fit the title of "dying" soul more deeply. Great work overall regardless!
Thank you very much :D (Yeah the 2 shorter tracks were really rushed because of time. Im not experienced in working so fast, but thats why i enjoyed the learning in this Jam :D)
Take flight was my favorite. Great work!
Thank you!
Great soundtrack ! The selection is overall pretty solid, although I especially liked Take Flight (it is the most elaborated one after all), the build-up of the track mixed with the choir parts and the orchestral hits is quite enjoyable. Good job !
Thank you! Yes "Take Flight" was the main submission :D The other 2 are admittedly a bit rushed because of the little time i had left to finish it
I love these<3 Pretty straightforward to the theme imo and I like the cohesion and composition!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Simple but nice music, I love them.
Thank you!
Nice job! I like your ideas, especially the choral section that dbubose pointed out. I like how the piano from the cure expands into it. Maybe play around with giving focus to a particular group of instruments or a rhythmic element to add contrast. I think a middle section with extra rhythm or new instruments might help things pop. Neat story concept with the stages of the dragon!
Thank you very much!
The tracks are a little quiet overall but other than that these were quite good!
I always like anything with choir in it!
Thank you!
Great job! I liked the overall themes. The choral section in take flight sounded really well written. The only direct feedback I have is that the overall mix is a bit quiet, but it still was very well mixed when turning the volume up!
Thank you :D
In the cure, I was just curious if those dissonances in the surrounding low section were meant to be there? Like thematically? Not like my opinion matters, it was just based on the name I was expecting something a little more uplifting is all. Good stuff tho! really liked the orchestral drums.
I see.. or hear what you mean. Its a little oversight, it was the last track i worked on and ran low on time so you are right :D
Thank you for your feedback!
