Description
Genre : Maybe classical/electro ??
Game : Plateformer, Shmup ?
Track : Boss battle
DAW : Ableton

Theme:

Two Worlds

How does it fit the theme?
I imagined a game where the player can switch at will between two worlds, each possessing their own style of music, but when fighting a boss, only the boss can do the switch. That's why this song switch between instruments, signatures and feelings.

Well I can definitely hear the Touhou inspiration! I'm getting TH15 flashbacks just hearing this, all you need to do is change the accordion to ZUNpets and it's a stage 3 theme LOL. I can really hear the clashing of two worlds, the composition is beautiful. Love the contrast between the real, classical instruments and this warbling, synthetic bassline too. I just want this to be a full soundtrack, I've had it on repeat for the past 5 minutes... please do these jams more often, I would love to hear more from you bro!

Reading your comment felt a bit surreal.. Thank you for your reply and support ! I plan doing more of these jams, it's a fun exercice ^^

I’m trying to imagine what two types of worlds you are implying in your music. The initial theme seems to fit a castle atmosphere with the low register chamber strings. The shift to the accordion and to ¾ time made it sound sea-shanty-esque. I’m curious to know what you were envisioning? I also like the key change and think it adds intensity to the climax of the battle. This is a cool adaptive piece! Thank you for sharing!

I was writting a huge response about how I imagined the whole track when I suddenly thought it might be better to just update this project description ^^' But concerning the key change, I don't really like the one in the middle of the song, but he was necessary for the loop, because of the other keys changes in the climax. Thank you for your kind reply !

PS : I did the update on a devlog, and then on the description project, but it won't appear. Maybe that's because I'm not updating the jam entry. But I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that, so..

I literally hear those two worlds at once. Very well composed and balanced. Nice job!

Great piano timbre!

Developer(+1)

Honestly, I didn't really touch the settings of the piano, there isn't any work here ^^'

I really enjoyed this track! Which might be in part because I have a soft spot for odd time signatures, as I've mentioned elsewhere, but there are also other cool things like the combination of more classical instruments with EDM-style drums. I would have liked it if the instruments sounded a bit more natural, right now it's very obvious they are just played by a computer and also lack a bit in dynamics. But the composition itself is really cool and I think if you take some more time for fine-tuning the sounds, this would become a superb piece of music.

Thanks a lot for the feedback ! I also have a soft spot for time signatures shenanigans, I immediatly thought about it when the "two world" theme was revelead ^^ I'm more focused in composition, so as you pointed out, I truly lack knowledge and experience in every other aspects of a music. Your comment is a nice encouragement for improvement, thank you !

Love the melodies and how they transition between each other. The game idea sounds really cool too, nice job!

This sounds like it'd fit really well for the boss you described! I really like the piano part at 1:20

Developer (1 edit)

thanks ! I think this is my favorite part of the music

I can picture this boss fight in my head so clearly! The mix of piano/bells/accordion(musette?) for the second theme is especially magical. Everything works well together, and the transitions are spot-on.
