Explain your hypothetical game concept & how you interpreted the theme!

This is a submission for "OST Minigame Jam #2" wherein participants are tasked with creating a song inspired by the prompt "The Sky, The Sea". There is an additional optional "Point-Buy Orchestra" challenge wherein each instrument is given a point cost and participants are allotted 15 points to requisition instruments for their orchestra.

I allocated my 15 points as follows:

9Pts for drums, all from the Taiko Creator VST (1 Odaiko, 1 Sanjaku Daiko, 2 Katsugi Okedo Taikos, 2 Shime Daikos). I assumed it would be fine to include rim strikes since they're basically just a kind of drum articulation. When I saw that unpitched percussion was priced at 2 instruments for 3 points, I realized that at 1.5pts each percussion was a cost effective means of filling up the orchestra. Plus, given the thematic prompt, I was reminded of a video of an impressive taiko drum corp performance I had watched awhile back called "The Fertility of the Sea" (it's on youtube) and wanted to do something with taikos.

2Pts for violas. Outside of two moments, I mostly used them for harmonic padding. I chose violas over violins mostly because they were cheaper in this challenge.

2Pts for alto sax. The alto sax provides most of the melody. I went with the saxophones because they kinda' blend the line between wind and horn and, considering the limited point budget, would provide a cost effective means of delivering a rich sonic texture.

1Pt for baritone saxophone.

1Pt for tuba. It was cheap and provides low frequency depth.

DAW: FL Studio

VSTs: Taiko Creator, Session Horns Pro, Audio Imperia Nucleus Orchestral Core.

Plugins: Waves Magma Tubes Stereo, Waves Magma Channel Strip, Maximus, Fruity Limiter, Balance, and Compressor.

What genre is your soundtrack?
Orchestra

What was your ensemble?
6 Drums, Violas, 1 Alto Sax, 1 Baritone Sax, 1 Tuba

very clever using the drums to fill out the orchestra! and the interplay between the pizzicato viola and the drums at 0:20 is sooo groovy.

This really sounds like a video game soundtrack. The composition is done so well, it captures a lot of the mood and charm of some classic rpg soundtracks I know and specifically reminds me of playing chrono trigger and ff7.

Very interesting ideas ! The kinda of ominous vibe suprised me in a good way, I really liked the part form 0:20 to 0:40, I wish it was even more develloped. Some melodic elements after that seemed a bit weird, but it blends well with the kinda creepy feeling :D Percussions are very nice !  Anyway, nice job !

Wow, I think the budget on the drums was worth it! I listened twice just to hear the more of the rhythms. Are you a percussionist?

Nah, used to play clarinet and (briefly) alto sax. More recently I've been learning guitar. Never played percussion but I've always had an appreciation for a good drum beat.
