  • Cute little game with a good message. Excellent job getting your hands into game development here, you've got some decent skills already! Collaborate more with other new developers, and refine your skills. you've got the stuff, in my opinion

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
You are a little crab trying to collect and recycle trash, but it keeps spreading all over your beach. Enemy crabs keep trying to stop you also!

The game is played with the Arrow Keys or WASD keys.

Most importantly I hide an Easter Egg in the game! please feel free to submit comments and feedback. Even if your not a judge!

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Extra Notes
I hope you enjoy the game! This is 1/12 for the year! Shoutout to Xeranic for coming in clutch with the music and sound affects right at the end. Thanks to the discord we were able to collab!

I could see the mechanics of this as part of mini-game within  a bigger game by the sea, it would be cool to build the world a little more. A bit of storytelling about the little crab could be kinda cool. I thought the game was almost over at 250 but then more trash appeared xD I didn't notice the crabs move faster above 300 though. I wanted to find the Easter Egg. It would've been nice to quickly restart after losing. Awesome job with this one!

Thank you for playing and feedback

Yooo this is amazing! I love the environmental story you have, it is really touching and does a great job. The graphics are very cute, and the gameplay is very straight forward and challenging. It was really cool how you were able to program it so that when you pick up 1 thing your set to grab all of that same item.

I'm not sure what the crabs are yelling at me as they charge me, but its awesome.

This game makes me want to pick up the trash at my local beach. Good game, good message.

Fun idea. Think Noobgames mention some of the things I was thinking about. I was more afraid of the bins than I was for the crabs. In the end it got kind of crowded so was not sure what my first item was that I picked up.

Not too big of a fan with the IRL images, would appreciate some pixel art or similar.

Good luck in the future!

Cute game! I enjoyed it.
Some feedback:
- Touching wrong color bin shouldn't end the game instantly. (Add lives?)
In my opinion, it shouldn't end the game at all. It should just not accept the garbage.
A middle ground would be adding some kind of punishment for recycling incorrectly.
So it could make you lose points, or lives.
- Every time I start the game I have to skip through the intro. You could add a skipped_intro boolean  or something. (I'm not sure how that works with visual programming, if you used that, sorry!)
- There is no indication of which color trash I picked up (am I not holding it in my hand?) and I'm not sure if that was intentionally a memory puzzle or just you didn't implement that. Sometimes I'll accidentally pick up some random trash and I won't know what it was, and then my only option is to guess what color it was which is pretty much a guaranteed game over. (You can find out what color it was by walking around and hoping there's trash of the same color that gets picked up.. but yeah)
- Enemy crab looks identical to player
Not really an problem but it's just a bit weird / confusing. Should at least change their color or something.
Hope this helps!
regards, andai

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely try and clean up the game after the Jam is judged. More importantly, I’ll try and carry this advice to my next game!
