Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • Your game seems to be well made and polished. Unfortunately given the very limited time available to judge, I wasn't able to get to the meat of the game - for the future you should make sure a full picture of the game, including how the theme is implemented and anything important you want to show off should be shown in the first 5 minutes if you want the judges to see/give feedback on them. I did not understand any direct connection to the theme from the game or GDD. Overall, I liked the artistic style and the bit of the story I got through seemed compelling. Well done!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes!

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes!

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes!

Tell us about your game!
Story:
You are a FBI agent with lost memories who is suddenly invited by a team of strange agents. Now you must work with them to find and eliminate even stranger criminals.
Gameplay:
You switch between "Pursuit mode" where you talk to NPCs and advance the plot, and "Terminal mode" where you can access the gathered clues and piece them together.
Controls:
Space/Enter/Left Mouse Button for dialog progress
Arrow Keys/Mouse for navigation between panels
Escape for pausing the game

Extra Notes
So the game is not quite... finished...
I tried my best to convey what I was trying to go for, but I'll definitely update the game and complete the first mission at some point, and possibly keep working on the game, but this is all I've got for the submission.
Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the experience!

So i get picked of the street, get introduced and almost immediately put into a lead role? sure xD
The story is interesting, and the visual executions is done well, though as you described, these kinds of project mainly require just a lot of content/work to get done.

The alchemy theme is a bit missing, but the shadow organization is a good one on the shadow part of the theme.

Did run into certain scenarios where i would have like to be able to return to a previous scene, like selecting a location and not being able to go back to base from it.

Nice job :)

Thanks for the feedback!

There is going to be an in-universe reason for the player being chosen as the lead role, but I didn't really think of explaining it in the submission. Maybe I'll add some sort of cutscene in the end of the mission to give a hint about the reason.

The alchemy theme was going to be incorporated by adding the option to assign different team members for story progression, but I ran out of time to implement it. I will be working on adding that once the judgment period is finished.

As for those scenarios where you can't go back, I guess you mean the "Work in Progress" dialog? I guess I should have made it so the player returns to the base instead of the main menu. I guess that's on my part XD

Reminiscent of MS-DOS, Amiga and other adventure games this short demo is dark, bizarre and interesting in the best possible way.

The game doesn't necessarily tie into the theme of the jam super well but it is a very interesting piece.

I'm super interested to see where this goes and how it develops. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game!

I was going to add the alchemy part of the theme by adding the option to assign different teammates for investigation and encryption puzzle mechanic, but I ran out of time.

I'll definitely work on improving the overall experience, adding a couple of mechanics and finishing the story.

what an interesting style! It is comfortable to look at and listen to. It takes a bit of time for the theme to tie in, so I would have liked it to sooner. But I enjoyed the time I spent playing, I made it to meeting the neighbor lady telling me about the toilets lol

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you liked the style and the music!

I'll be working on updating the game after the judgment period is over, with hopefully the complete plot of the first mission.

Interesting approach to the theme. It was actually the first game I checked GDD for and after doing that, it made sense :) As for the game its also really interesting. I have to say good job. It has unique and own style to it. Team members are different, even sound wise. Personally I didn't like the "blabbering" sound when characters are talking but it makes sense. Its just preferential thing. One thing that I hated was the fact that at the start the text was going automatically. I am a slow reader and when the game dictates its text speed annoys me. For the dialogs & further game it was all good because game waited for me to go to next piece of text.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you enjoyed the style of the game!

As for the automatic text at the start, I was originally going to add music and make it feel like a cutscene, but I didn't have the time for it. I guess that's on me. I'll most likely add some settings for the letter speed, dialog sounds, automatic skip, etc. I'm really glad you brought this to my attention!
