  • controlls seems to work well. maybe adding some effects to the cauldron when you stir could make it a little more fun and interesting

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yeeeeees

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
yessir (i almost forgot even after submission)

Tell us about your game!
You play as the character on the left. Your mentor is to your right.

Arrow tracks will appear on screen. Your mentor will give an example of what rhythm to hit the arrows to, and then the arrows will appear on your track.

You can only hit the arrows with the keyboard's WASD keys when they light up for you, about one beat later.

Although your mentor gave an example, you can feel free to hit the arrows in any rhythm, as long as they land on a rhythm tick.

The rhythm is visually displayed in the middle, as a bar going left to right, with subdivisions to represent the rhythm ticks. This represents one whole beat.

On the bottom, a bar of how early or how late your hits is displayed. (More left = more early. More right = more late).

Extra Notes
would have loved to do more on the potion mixing, but the rhythm system was such a struggle to implement until about a week later.

i did try to get my friend on board the team, and he helped with discussing initial designs and trying his hand at game development, but it seems like he got busy and couldn't participate as much as he thought he could, but i still want to include him since he at least tried!

i dont even know if i want to talk about the slow spaghettification of the code over the course of the week.

there were plans to make the game focused on multiple rhythms (polyrhythms), as well as varied rhythm patterns, but unfortunately had to settle with just one rhythm with a monotone pattern, due to time constraints.

will def get that polyrhythm thing going even after the jam, since I really want to see how that works (also would be a potentially good rhythm practice tool for rhythm games).

Thanks PirateSoftware for hosting this jam, I had a lot of fun participating! I look forward to playing other jammers' games!

Fun idea. Would be neat to see different potion recipes in the form of different rhythm patterns, and then maybe different quality potions based on how well you play the rhythm game. Looking cool, keep up the good work!

Very nice little one off!

Really like the idea, it's also functional in that it helps train the understanding of beats. Would like to see more!

Love the concept, and how the potion actually gets stirred while you play. Fun idea to make a rhythm game like this. I hope to see you get your polyrhythms implemented so it can match your complete vision <3
