  • Really interesting idea, and playing as a cat is adorable! However, I felt that there were times that the controls were a little unrefined - I think I would have preferred the symbols on the screen as buttons to begin with, or an on-screen reference to the correspondence keys. While the alchemy theme is there, the shadow theme is a bit lacking, I thought. I loved your music and assets, this was a treat to experience!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
I said Yes! I'm double checking, like, right now! Yeah it's on there. I think. Yeah. Pretty sure. Like 99.99999999%. I even went back and added a second link lol

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Maaaayyybe.... Yes.

Tell us about your game!
It's a small game about a familiar being a little gremlin and tampering with their wizard's spellbook!

Extra Notes
Thanks to Pirate Software for hosting the jam, I had a ton of fun! I hope people like it, I learned a lot.

This was so fun! I really liked trying to memorize the spells with the buttons. The art was super cute and the sounds were great too. I liked the text when you lose haha. Great job!!

I love this. The reaction when the cat gets caught is so silly.

Very cute!

Is it correct that I have to memorize the keys for each component to be able to use them? I found that to be a barrier I didn’t want to invest.

If it had been introduced step by step, maybe it would have been doable.

Thanks! And yeah, a good chunk of feedback hinted that I find a way to label/remind players of the elemental keys, so that's what I'm working on implementing for an update.

I tried to accommodate by having  the overall session be short (60 seconds),  but outside of the game jam and building on the prototype, I think I could consider making stages/incremental introduction to elements and spells or adding/reducing difficulty.

Thank you for giving my game a go, and your feedback! Sorry I'm so late giving a response!

Very cute looking game but feels quite hard to play.

I think controls should stay on the screen because it’s easy to forget them. If not controls themselves, then at least some diagram with the positions of elements: fire - top, water - bottom, wind - left, earth - right, and separately life - left, death - right.

Also [Q] and [E] didn’t work for me, only [U] and [O] did.

I don’t think there’s any logic to the wizard dude position. He can teleport near you even if he wasn’t in a room before, and the fact that hiding also resets the spell makes it a little annoying.

But nevertheless, good job!

Developer

Ah shoot, Q and E don't work! >.< Sorry about that; I was playtesting on the other side of the keyboard...

Thanks so much for your input! I agree, I definitely want to find a way for controls to stay on screen; one of my friends who playtested towards the end had a similar concern, too. So I hope to add something like that after the jam, if I can.

Thinking on it, I think you might be right about the spell clearing on duck too; I might consider adding a separate button for resetting input... The wizard was supposed move randomly, and to be able to surprise sometimes, (only if they were in a certain position) but I might have to rework that, or maybe add a point where they're in the room and about to come over?

Regardless, thanks again for your input oneir0mancer, and taking time to check out my game! I appreciate it! (I can't wait to get back in there and make some changes haha)

I found myself losing time to this game. Every time I went to do something else I went back to beat my last run.

Haha, I'm glad you like it! Thanks for taking time to check it out :D <3

It's a very cool game, especially after you get the hang of where the elements are on the keyboard, and the drawings are just amazing. Very well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Sorry about that, I wasn't sure where to place controls/which were more comfortable for people and I wasn't sure how to put in options yet ^^; I'll try to make it a bit clearer in the future!
Thanks for playing!
