  • I think you've got an interesting puzzle game in the making here :) but I would have liked to see you lean more into the alchemy theme. maybe a few different potions to make use of different mechanics. like maybe an invisible wall?

Hey this is a creative concept! I do wish I had a bit of feedback on how close I am to being lost in shadow, and how many "charges" of light I have left. However, the puzzles were fun and challenging to solve!

It was a bit unclear to me how alchemy ties in, but that's okay!

Solid submission overall

Developer

Thank you! I'll try to make the amount of fuel more obvious as soon as I can patch the game.

We had a lot of trouble with tying in the alchemist part, so during development we had to convince ourselves that the "fuel" was a premixed alchemical solution of some sort .

Nicely done!
+ Puzzles are really well thought out. The game teaches the basic principles of lighting lamps to progress, then builds on it in challenging ways
+ Music, art, voice acting, and gameplay make for great thematic vibes
+ The goddamn amogus rune caught me off-guard
- Death occurs if you're at zero fuel for too long, when the player is instead led to believe that death occurs from being in the shadows too long. This leads to unexpected deaths while standing next to lanterns, and disincentivises walking through shadows at 0 fuel when it's necessary to progress.
- I couldn't progress past the last(?) room where you ignite the lighthouse. The furnace room is much too dark to see at 1-2 fuel, and the furnace seems to expect me to have 3 fuel on my person, when there's no way to achieve that without locking me out of the furnace room.
- It's possible to softlock just before the furnace by taking the lamp oil on the last runes (The thick circle rune) while you're walking upwards. You become locked on the runes, out of range of the lantern.

Thank you for the wonderful feedback! Admittedly the rooms are really dark we're going to look into toning it down. If you made it past the thick circle runes it means you beat our game! Unfortunately, the furnace doesn't work right now so we can't put you in the win screen ;-; Were looking to fix that as soon as we can update the game after the jam.

Thanks for again for playing!

Neat little idea, with the shadows does have a little bit of an oppressive atmosphere, but the music is surprisingly soothing so makes it relatively cosy.

Fun, simple gameplay. Enjoyed it. One suggestion is to have a really dim light to light up the entire level. Because once the lamps gets activated, the rest of the way becomes too dark, almost hard to see where to go. Just a thought.

Developer

thank you! I'll try patching in your suggestion when judging ends^^
