Very nice story. I like the break wall mechanic and the screenshake gives Blaze the feeling of weight. The game is also really easy to understand thanks to the simple controls. One question though, does the flamethrower do anything? I think I did not get killed by them. Also, sometimes Blaze could stop on a point without a white dot. Anyway, I think that the difficult is just right, and overall, the game is great. Good job!

thank you so much playing the game and give your feedback :)
Yes, flamethrower collision is a bit buggy. I need to fix it.

Level design is pretty good, the polish is brilliant, the visuals are simple but beatiful and the game feels great. However, I don't think it fits this jam at all. I don't think the game is too fit for speedrunning since it is more of a puzzle game or timing game without the requirement of much skill. Moreover, I believe that you could have implemented the overheat theme better, it works just as a timer in this one.  The way I would have implemented it is that in the first place you overheat from your rage(overheat meter is full) and as time goes on you cooldown. While overheating your ability to smash walls as well as your speed is greater. If you cooldown you lose(instead of overheating). This would add speedrunability and actually use the theme as something other than a timer.
Overall Everything other than the implementation of the theme is perfect, but the lack of theme and speedrunability bring the game down a little, Solid game, solid entry, Amazing job!

Thank you so much for providing such great feedback. I really liked your idea for more rage with time and using that. I will definitely consider implementing it post jam.

yes, I was spamming, right here….

well played level designer… really well played with the spikes, I see you

(haven’t finished yet, but had to stop to tell you this)

alright now finished….

i think every single level introduced at least one little new thing, walls, fire, having to move because a bullet is coming to you, good for keeping it fresh

I think if there were 2 or 3 more levels I would have lost interest, it doesn’t overstay its welcome.

I found the end node not obvious, it needs to be made more different from the normal ones IMO.

Some of the obstacles… like a double fire in a X shape, seem to do nothing to you, or I just got extremely lucky with cycles.

It hurts my head to think of the effort of making sure the cycles are lining up in a way that is both possible and not frustrating, you did that well.

The theme is… a bit of a stretch and fills a bit shoehorned in. Feels more like the theme is “Timers” from playing this game.

to the person in your team that did the story stuff… I’m sorry, I’m a mechanics first person, specially when evaluating a game I just wanted the story stuff to get out of the way so I could play it and see what I think. People are different and I’m sure in a different context if I was leaning on my couch playing this on a steam deck I’d probably care and find it cute - not when I’m trying to squeeze a review in when I have a few minutes.

In conclusion, you picked one puzzley mechanic, explained, explored, expanded, and completed before it got boring… sounds like a win for a puzzley game to me

Cute story about Love Cubes :D. Interesting game concept and fast paced. Enemy placements are quite well and we are bound to bump into them if we just keep spamming. Gotta wait and dodge bullets and time our escape :D Loved the gameplay. Music vibes well with the fast paced gameplay, and the SFX are pretty cool. At my first play I didn't notice the story text, may be text color could be something other than white to get attention and not blend with the level stuffs?

Scored 241461! Really liked the movement! Was quick and responsive. liked the barrier mechanic too, where the player needs to hit it multiple times, requiring them to solve the problem

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :).

Solid idea and execution! Everything about this game (story, art, sfx) is charming. Just as a suggestion, maybe tone down the screen shake a bit cuz it gets distracting the longer you play. Overall tho, great game!

Developer

thank you for checking out my game and for your valuable suggestion. I wanted to add a button to toggle that. But yes, I agree.
