Didn't finish the game, but it's got potential. The level design is interesting and sprites fit together nicely. Only thing holding it back for me are player controls, which could be easily improved by rebinding the keys and adding a lil bit of feedback for the player. Other than that, pretty cool!

Thank you a lot! :)

I didnt complete it however i think this game has potential from what I have seen.

Some good things that i liked about it was
  • The visuals
  • sound effects
  • How its really easy to get going
  • The unique Climbing walls (not every platformer has that)
  • The fire ( idk why i just thought it was pretty cool)

Some things you could improve.

  • Some feedback for the player to show that you have pressed the button
  • maybe add "WASD" movement, well for me i suck at using arrow keys and i use WASD frequently
  • When you die by falling off the map (the player is still on the screen but i die)
  • The fire cooldown is a bit slow, could speed that up
  • Could make it a tad more easier (idk because i dont use arrow keys often and i suck at it, it could be really easy i just suck haha)

I think if there were WASD movement i would be able to complete it but i just generally suck at arrow keys lol

Most of the things i have said was basically what other people had said lol (only just noticed).

Have a good rest day and hope u do well in the jam!! (Like 4h left until the results !!!)

awh you're so nice lol

Developer

Welcome... thank you for yoru feedback. Yeah, I think the fire could be faster. The game already felt so short and easy to me. Maybe it's not for others :D

WASD was intended, I think in my last game I had both ^^

Where did you fall of the screen? Last Level? I think there is something odd close to the end q.q

Thank you for feedback! Stay tuned after the jam please :)

not really sure what all of the exclamation point blocks are for. Looking back though it's just because the button on the floor is a bit hard to see.

The physics are a bit janky and don't seem to enforce expected rules correctly. I would imagine that you should only be able to perform a total of 2 jump actions while in the air at a time, but I seem to be able to jump off of walls multiple times. After playing though, the multiple wall jumps seem intentional, it would be nice to know that wall jumps are infinite.

On the topic above, would be great to have UI elements to display jump count.

Why didn't you use spacebar for jump?

Double jumps wouldn't activate for me sometimes. I'm not really sure why.

Would be nice to have door opening SFX, and death SFX

It would be cool to have wall friction so you could play with the idea that you can slide down walls and do a wall jump off of them.

Not sure exactly what the numbers mean on the leaderboard.

Wish there was another music track or 2. It got a bit annoying hearing the same track every level.

Didn't use climbing at all since that level got lost and the instructions on how to climb along with it.

I know you didn't get to get as far as you wanted, but I'm definitely interested to check out a more polished version!

Thanks for your submission and best of luck.

The exclamation marks are a bit of a visual tutorial pointing out important or dangerous things. The main reason for their existence is that they existed tho! I have some other signs which simply didn't make it into the game yet :D

Yeah, walljump was intended to be used where double jump is not enough. In the end wall jump is quite easy, a bit to easy...but it could be harder later on with spikes at the walls or so.

My first sidescroller in Godot. Yeah, the physics do their sometimes. I'm okay with the result for now x)

I had a jetpack on w in my version, that is mostly why not just space for jump, more like moba conrols hehe

The UI would be an idea, ofc time expensive q.q

Friction gotta be done! SFX are a time question ofc, so is music.

Finishing the game without climbing isn't that easy! some levels can be annoying that way o.o

Cool game! The visuals are amazing. I would say that maybe you could make it so that the flames aren't on for as long, since it takes forever for them to turn off. Other than that, this is a great game! :)

The art is really nice. You should definitely keep working on this, especially to polish up the physics a bit. Atm they're very janky, but with some reworking, this game would feel very good!

Developer

Thanks I guess? Hehe

that aesthetics are great, ambience, tasteful use of lights

it’s short and simple, with very quirky controls… never saw anyone do E and Q for the purposes you used them.

image.png

the movement feels fine, it’s a type of slower, more puzzley platformer with the very specific type of wall jump… I think you picked a lane for how it controls and executed it pretty well (many flavors of platforming, matter of design, not better/worse - you can check my game for a completely different take)

I have a few points of improvement:

  • some platforms were quite hard to see because the background happened to be also darker in a color that was very similar to the platform itself. I know you are going for an aesthetic but might want to make some adjustments for gameplay… maybe make sure there’s light next to moving platforms

  • the fires take foreeeeeeeeeeever on and very little off, it’s so much waiting, could tone those times down a bit

  • in levels where you are close to the bottom of the screen, if your character is even partially off screen, you die… that feels very unfair. could probably make it so if you are at least 75% off screen

  • it’s missing some “life”… some animation/sound when you die or when you press a button.

Thank you for the detailed feedback and for playing the game :)

the graphics are cool af but the movemnt needs a little tweaking ngl

I really liked the Aesthetics of the game, the lights worked really well, but the timing of the fire throwers are kinda strange to me (got first place)

Developer

Nice that you like the graphics... the score is counting death tho. First place is currently a negative thing to achieve! hehe :D
But let's see how long you will hold it. I wonder how 3 people rated the game without making it to the end. Until now the game is not rly hard or long... at least I thought tho q.q

Come by after the rating if you would like more compled and polished levels :)
