This game was incredible and took me by surprise. I checked it out of curiosity, but it was a blast to play the whole way through. I love Metroidvanias, and this one did something that many fail to do: keeping the game fresh as you revisit old areas. Reaching new areas with the least amount of blocks possible was really engaging and being able to collect blocks from old areas was incredibly satisfying. The whole block mechanic was a really creative way to spice up the platforming too, as you get to place the platforms. Overall, this is just a great game and I'm impressed they were able to put together so many ideas that work incredibly well together in such a condensed experience.
I've started this one several times, without time to finish it, but NOW THAT I HAVE...
Blink Blonk is absolutely fantastic. I spend a considerable amount of time trying to solve the puzzles, and even longer trying to break them using wall jumps and block placements, and honestly... There were ZERO places I was able to break the progression. I managed to get to the second-to-top-right room early, but I didn't have 3 blocks to go further, so it still managed to keep me playing fair. Long story short, the level design is just great.
The upgrades you get feel satisfying every time and are at the PERFECT place in the progression. All-in-all, there isn't much I can say bad about it. It's hard to even find criticism. I guess the non-solid blocks could be a little more obvious...? But even that is just grasping for SOMETHING to make this review useful haha. Keep up the amazing work!
I enjoyed it quite, also lacked the platforming skills to properly play it but the puzzle aspect was pretty wel handled imo. I also liked the way the core mechanic was for progression alongside the new abilities, its pretty cool to feel like you can reach new areas simply by being in a screen you've been before but with more crates/batteries square thingies.
The precise platforming is kind of a double edge sword. On one handit allows for more creativity using the limited movement to design puzzles. On the other hand it was hard for me to gauge what could i do at a given time and I ran into this problem where i think a solution isn't right because it seemed too hard. Overall this happens due to my admitedly poor skills and isn't really a problem but i think it's worth giving it a thought if the target audience for a future game includes people not familar with puzzle platformers like these.
More of a sidenote but i couldn't tell for sure how the game related to the theme.
Excellent way to develop the creativity, love the gameplay and art too !
Thanks so much for playing!!
This is an INCREDIBLE entry. I wish I had the precision-platforming skills to give it the review it deserves. I can speak to the sound, visuals, and game feel, all of which are phenomenal. The soundtrack transitions from moody to exciting, the animations look great, and the "pick-up-and-drop" indicators feel snappy and intuitive. Really fantastic job!
Thanks so much for playing!!
great game. Reminds me of elechead a bit. Really cool entry
Thank you! That game was definitely a huge influence.
Another superb entry from SuperTry showing their prowess with puzzle based platformers. It's incredible charm and head scratching levels keep you engaged from start to finish. Some incredible depth and mechanics here for under a week of development. Great sound design and music too create just the right inquisitive yet dire mood for your incredibly cute protagonist. Nice work!!
Aw thanks so much!
Tons of fun and creativity packed into the experience, but I got stuck early on and resorted to the cheat button! I appreciate you putting that in so stumped players like me could see the whole game for themselves. I wasn't able to find a way to bring up a fourth block after I returned to the second floor using two blocks and wall jumps, always ended up with three there. Wonderful game that I wish I could've cracked 100% myself!
Thanks for playing! Glad the cheat button got some use!
Very fun platformer puzzle game glad I played it!
The use of visual clues in the game was very creative/helpful. I found myself looking around when I got stuck in a certain room seeing if I could find any hints to help me move along.
Having a map was also extremely nice. It was also very cool to see some spots that were right in front of my nose but I just hadn't noticed before. Also being able to see the blocks on the maps was a huge help since I feel like I didn't have to spend my time trying to find all of my blocks blindly.
Game felt very smooth and responsive I enjoy controlling the cat around. Wall jumping was hit and miss with me. Sometimes it worked great, but sometimes it wasn't really working with me.
I do feel like I may have ruined the game for myself since I was able to wall jump all the way up to the invert block and didn't find the mid air dash block until I was basically done with all the puzzles.
First block I got was a bit confusing because I kept picking it up and dropping it right after. I'm believe this is because I kept holding 'J' after I picked the block up. I think if you have it to were you can't place a block until your done holding 'J' then this would help clear up the confusion.
As far as the visuals I liked the minimalist thinking and using visual clues to help guide the player. I am not a fan of the yellow/grey/black color combo.
Wish this game could run as an application instead of being stuck in a windowed box. Also controller support would be awesome!
Music was awesome and I loved how it went with the splash screen!
The ending is fantastic I love the cat's little home!
Overall very fun creative game I totally recommend!
Thanks so much for the feedback and thanks for playing!
Hey thanks again for the feedback! I think I fixed the block pickup input issue in the latest update and I added a fullscreen functionality. I usually do .Exe versions of my games for my patreon patrons if you're interested! Thanks for helping make the game better
Very fun and well polished! I was able to get pretty far but then fell down without any blocks and could not get back up that first little step.
Ah yep, I see how that could happen now. Thanks for your feedback, I'll probably fix that!
Thanks again for the feedback! I altered that room a little bit so you should be able to get out of it if you have the walljump power.
Cool! I'll take another crack at it.
Man! that was fun but tested my patience at the end before the last power haha. I probably had to loop around like 20 times. The ending was worth it though which was nice :)
Cute and clever metroidvania!
Thanks so much!
I may have had a bug where I simply can't pickup a box. it cycles very quickly between picking up or not the but. So in the end it was very difficult to play. For this reason, I could not get past the "put it all together screen"
Thanks for reporting this! It might be a browser issue? I mostly tested this in Chrome.
Thanks again for the feedback! I think I fixed the bug and you should be able to pick up the box now.
