Title
Clandestine Specimen 08

Description
Since there was no picture theme I had to come up with one myself but I didn't actually get one until after I had finished the song so it didn't matter.

I went with chiptune since it is a pretty easy style to make catchy music with for when you don't have a visual idea of what you want.

the song has a darker almost secret lab vibe to it which is why I gave it the name "Clandestine Specimen 08". Clandestine meaning secretive, Specimen referring both to the creature as well as the motif itself, and 08 to show that is is chiptune or 8-bit.

I got heavy inspiration from funnily enough the song "I heard the bells on Christmas day". I lead music for my church and they played this song the Sunday before Christmas and while I was leading I was like, "dang, that one part near the end of each verse is really really good". I wanted to recreate it in FL studio so I did and I studied how it made the melody so catchy. the sections of my song that are inspired by the hymn is the part at 0:38 and at 1:55.

The motif can be heard in every section aside from the first 8 measures as that was buildup. It is altered most of the time in different keys and especially different intervals and note lengths. it usually made the first measure of each section in the melody so listen out for it.

The song has an A A* B B* A C D D* structure

chiptune always gets me! :D I like the arps and the mystic feeling of the song. I think it is also not too overcrowded and has a good transperancy to it. Maybe some transitions could be a bit smoother, but the whole track is lovely and gives a hopeful vibe at the end.

I’ve said this countless times in these jams, but I always have a bias torwards chiptune music. I loved it even with only the first notes!

I like how as the track goes it becomes more… epic (?), reimnds me of the true lab from undertale in a way.

I also like the idea behind the name, very creative. 10/10

This is awesome, I love the atmosphere and the way you play with the motif is a lot of fun! Would definitely be a great BGM for a dungeon or something. I don't have much to say except I really like the music, great job!

thank you so much! Honestly it’s super nice getting compliments from someone who makes music as good as you do!

Right off the bat, I love the opening notes! Your use of the theme was also well incorporated, and I especially love how you built on it in the section after 1:30. Also, I can definitely hear the Christmas-y inspiration after 1:55, like you said. Great work!

Thanks! Yeah I added the section after 1:30 because without it I was worried the song would be too short and too repetitive .

I was hooked from the very first notes. The ostinato and the two chords (Em and B7) at the beginning reminded me of Céleste.

I went to listen to your Christmas music (which is very good) but I didn't perceive the inspiration. Except that your passage at 0'38 is very catchy.

You also had the good idea of reusing the motif but with a different rhythm at 1'37. It's really cool. The whole thing is very good.

Thank you so much!

The inspiration I got was less to sound like the Christmas music but the way it used the chords by having the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass parts all playing on the same instrument with varying changes in notes to make a really cool effect.
