this was so much fun!! I could easily see myself playing a game like this for hours. the environment had the perfect amount of detail to keep me wanting to explore without being overwhelming at all. also, as someone who loves people-watching, I enjoyed the implementation of stories behind the objects, and how the descriptions changed throughout the search (before finding the item, while holding the item, and after returning it). it really added an extra element of intrigue and satisfaction to the whole experience. amazing work, looking forward to seeing more maps in the future! :)

back in this comment section to say I miss this game it's been two years for me and I think it genuinely changed my life. I don't know if there will ever be more of it but regardless I find myself coming back to these characters when I need comfort. I hope someday we get even the tiniest morsel of canon content again, but until then I'm glad we have what we have.
also hi vtsom fandom I love you may we never fade away with time
idk if you check these comments but I sincerely hope you're doing well! whether you finish the game or not I'm so grateful you created as much as you did. I still think about your characters darn near every day, and it's not often something resonates with me for that long! if you can create something that impactful for fun, I can only imagine what amazing things you'll do in your professional life. I continue to wish you the very best!
Honestly how could a videogame-esque song about a mountainous place NOT give Celeste vibes lol
Keeping the strings on the 1 count was my way of trying to give the piece some stability, or like a foundation I guess? I suppose I sort of used the strings as a fallback though, so it could've been done better if I'd tried to experiment more. Thank you for the feedback!
Ah, this is probably the second song I've ever made in 7/8, so it makes sense I didn't use the signature to its fullest. Listening to some of the other entries in this jam is giving me some ideas for future songs and other ways I could utilized the time signature though, so I'm happy this has become a learning experience for me. Thank you for the feedback!
I really like the celestial feel of this song, it’s very relaxing and fits your description of time flowing like a river. This song actually makes me imagine stars shimmering on a river in the moonlight, similar to the cover art you chose. I don't know how to explain it, but I think the way you used your chosen time signature mixed with the instruments you selected almost resembles flowing water in itself. It reminds me of Waterfall from Undertale, so maybe that's why the connection feels so strong to me. Anyways I really enjoyed this, great work!
I love how you managed to make the odd time signature sound perfectly natural and even endearing! I also very much enjoyed how you visually represented the notes in your video. I’ve been taking a music theory class recently, so seeing the notes in the signature represented visually is interesting and helpful to study :)
I enjoyed the nostalgic feel of this piece, but like the others have said it does seem to maintain the same kind of rhythm the whole time, which makes the overall piece feel less dynamic. None of the sections stand out among each other, basically. I think this could've been fixed by changing the waltz melody (triangle channel) up a little. Something similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_4wcJVX2BQ.
Thank you! One look at my other youtube videos is enough to show how crazy I am about Bug Fables. It was really fun to make a song inspired by it, and I'm glad it still has enough originality to not seem like a copy! (Also I'm happy I got you interested in the game heheh). As for the mids and highs, mixing and mastering are my weaknesses too so you might be right. I'll try to pay a bit more attention to the eq stuff in the future! :)
oh and I actually set it to recommend that video (when you add an end card you can choose to put a specific video rec), but I'm sure the algorithm would've carried through without my influence too lol
I like the retro feel of this! The comment before this one mentions how it sounds a bit like music from the first paper mario, and I couldn’t agree more! It sounds very similar in feel to that game’s ost, and other games from that period. I also like how you worked in the jam's theme in the beginning. Great work!
Dude those opening chords felt right out of katamari damacy!! I really love the feel of the whole track, could easily see myself rolling up entire rooms, houses, and cities to this tune. At the same time, it does still feel original and dynamic enough to stand on its own. Apart from the intro, that stretch from 1:15-1:30 is probably my favorite part. Great work!
You’re right about the bass and melody, I made the rhythms kind of different as an attempt at filling out the song more, but listening back I think I also failed to quantize the swing notes properly, which makes them sound a little...off. Thanks for the detailed feedback, I clearly have a lot to learn, but knowing what specifically to focus on helps a lot :)
