This was a really good arrangement! It kept the same kind of energy as the original, and it was really realistically orchestrated - I could see this song being played like this at one of the Distant Worlds concerts :)
My only critique would be to make sure your streaming versions match up with your final submission - I very nearly missed out on listening to the (very good!) piano solo because I clicked through to YouTube instead of downloading, which would have been a massive shame!
A really nice arrangement, well done! Lovely piano playing too :)
This is a really cool submission, I love how energetic it is! As a beginner myself, I'm also impressed by the sort of audio depth(?) of the instruments, how none of them seem to be overlapping. What I mean is, you can hear the sort of distance between the sounds/instruments in the same way you would when listening to a live orchestra performance. I don't know how you achieved that but you did it really well!
The piano at the end is my favorite part, it sounds so graceful. I especially love the part just after 1:40, the harmony between the lower notes and the higher melody sounds amazing :)
This has great orchestral sound and quality! The building layers of the monophonic main motif feel very big when the brass and cymbals take over which is a cool effect. My favorite part is the blasty trombones playing a version of the bass line during the biggest moments. The piano solo at the end is very well-done. Great work and thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent piano playing! Heh.
What do you use for piano?
Thanks! For the piano part I used an EastWest Bosendorfer patch played through a Nord Stage
I love the energy of this song! Really cool submission!!
Thanks. Hope square gives me the call when they do the remake :)
Really enjoyed this overall - it made me wonder if there is a similar faster-paced version of this theme in the game, maybe during the palace escape in Disc 2? If not I could totally see this fitting that scene which is credit to the arrangement!
One thing I thought might be improved were the dynamics, which were a bit inconsistent in places for an orchestral arrangement. There was an long crescendo right near the start in particular which imo would have been more effective if it were just one or two bars, or even if the dynamic had transitioned straight from mp to mf/f.
Wasn't expecting the pleasant surprise that was the solo piano at the end - those fast runs sounded super natural!
Thanks for the kind words! Yes you are right about disc 2 - good memory- Nobuo does a reiteration of the theme there. Inre: solo piano at end - yes the runs were played not programmed - some piano flourishes just can't be programmed :)
I liked the high pace you tried out for this orchested FF9 song! Listening to the first one, it sounded so peaceful slow paced, but this gives a whole new feel for it and the notes sound really graceful! Awesome work on this!
Thanks! One of my all-time favorite themes, was fun to make
