I was worried you weren't gonna get many plays/reviews with the virus stuff.
Congratulations! On #2 overall 🎉
Yeah, it's definitely one good reason why I should switch game engines. Best I can do is give suggestions on how to fix the problem. Definitely going to remember that the itch.io app doesn't have any issues with it.
I've been using Godot for my last few games and can recommend it.
Although it appears to have performance issues with chrome (just this game, not my others)
This has some of the old school roguelike vibes! Very nice!
I think the fighting was a bit too drawn out. Maybe if I had some good dash or something to speed things up. I mean, the goblins were much faster than me, but did not really attack actively. I think maybe if they would have acted in a more aggressive way and I had some way of running faster between the swords it would have been more fun.
The turrets were cool, but I got owned by them :D
I think the game would have benefited from a higher tempo, like less text to convey the message and higher pace in the fights.
Very cool game though, great job with this one!
I totally agree on the game speed. I already scaled text down to make sure I wouldn't get bored reading things, but movement speed has been the consistent criticism about this, even by myself.
Definitely planned on doing more with the goblins, but it was that part of the jam where I wanted more content to fill out the adventure, so I had to throw together their AI pretty quick.
All of this will of course be addressed/fixed for the potential full version, don't you worry ^^
Love the game! Congrats! make sure to review your game as well it would mean a lot to us :-D https://goosenode-games.itch.io/trevosopia
Sure, thanks!
Anything in particular you liked about it? Or something that stood out?
Looking at the screenshots, I thought I would miss those visually appealing graphics. But playing it, I thought they were so cool and creative! I also loved the comedy in the stories, and I didn't miss the graphics at all. It felt like I was reading a book. And it was pleasantly surprising how many things you managed to add to the game, apart from the core gameplay: story, stats, shop, and letting the player choose what to do. There was one situation, I believe it was when rocks were going to fall, that I picked the funny answer. Then had to dodge a bunch of letters, and I was like, "Oh no, no, no! I take it back, I want the cave!" Hahaha. Anyway, I had a lot of fun playing it. Thanks for making it!
Managed to get it working via the itch app.
This game is fantastic and is definitely a highlight of the jam. I definitely could see this being a full-game, especially as a mobile game with motion controls.
Thank you thank you ^^
And especially thank you for fidning a workaround through Game Maker's stupid issues ^^
This is a cool game. The text system seems cool and flexible to allow for quite a few effects. I liked the fact that you had an overview of gold etc at a glace (back in the days this was not the case) and actual interactive combat makes it feel alive. The game gives me a similar vibe to something like undertale. Well done!
Hey, haven't rated yet but it keeps getting picked up as a virus by my computer. My usual methods can't seem to open it. Any advice?
Sometimes disabling windows defender (or whatever antivirus you have) works, sometimes running it as an admin. If you get a popup that it doesn't want to run, it's possible to hit "advanced view" and then "run anyway". But there doesn't seem to be one single, consistent thing that can make it work, which is very bothersome D:
One of the best I've played so far! It looks, sounds and feels great to play, great job!
Thanks ^^
Any suggestions for if I ever get around to making a full game out of the thing?
The movement felt a bit slow and the text was a bit fast but maybe I'm just a slow reader lol. But if I played some more I'm sure I'd get used to it
I definitely agree on the movement speed, but at least with the text, it won't progress until you allow it to. I should be able to add a text speed option in the future :)
