How did you choose to implement the Theme: Fear the Devil in your game?
The game has very prevalent religious motifs, and you could say that the main antagonist in the game is a metaphorical devil (*cough *cough, the very not corrupt church)
Did you implement any of the optional Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
1: The main priest is associated with upside down crosses. Even if she is terrible, she isn't associated with demons.
3:The main event of this game is an exorcism!
Did you create your game in RPG Maker?
Yes

I really respect how much original art went into this one. Making the sprites and all of the portraits was a huge timesink on our project, and a majority of our tilesets are adapted from pre-made assets.
The narrative was also interesting, and the interpretation of the theme is clever. I like the submissions that go for a more symbolic "devil" than an actual monster.
My only major critique is that the framing and setting confused me a bit. It seems to take place in a hyper-conservative Christian church in the early-to-mid 1900s, but there's modern-day slang, a casual reference to lean, a well-respected female priest, and a lobotomy(?) all in the same time frame. Some of it might have been intentionally fictionalized, but with a conflict so grounded in reality, it was hard to tell.
(To be fair, I also didn't fully get if the procedure was meant to be a lobotomy. It seemed like they managed to avoid all of the guaranteed complications while removing exactly what they wanted to, so it might have been more of a sci-fi style thing.)
Either way, I'm excited to see that you might revisit these characters in another game soon! I'm very interested in how their stories might develop.
Wow.. This one really broke my heart ):
Once again, blown away by your art and music! The details in all the architecture for the church were really beautiful, and I loved all the cameos you included, very cute!
For the character art, also very breathtaking and very fitting- I like how sketchy the lines look, giving everyone a kind of intense feeling throughout. This story made me nearly cry, if I'm being honest- truly, what else could be worse than seemingly star-crossed lovers been made to be kept apart by religion and unorthodox medical procedures, if you want to call it that.
It felt very *REAL*, which I think played into how painful this entry seemed to be. Also, your way of making insufferable mothers is really on point lmao
Maybe, in some universe, these guys can find true love with one another that won't be tampered with ; _ ; I hope, in that fantasy universe, they can run away together;; Fantastic game!!
First off, Ew. Second off EWWW third off how DARE YOU BREAK MY HEART LIKE THAT.
Okay. *Spoilers*
Obsessed with a cheeky prequel. Love that. What fantastic world based story telling. Like the world and the timeline and these characters and their lives feel really real in this world. really neat.
The map layers of the church were stunning. I had a lot of fun running underneath things and feeling the full almost 3D effect of the art. Really really well put together. And the stained glass was SO PRETTYYYY wtfff why do religions get all the pretty architecture.
The voices of all your characters are so distinct. It does such a good job of showing vs telling. I could feel who was underconfident, who was over confident etc. without it being too overstated.
The ending was just so sad and devastating. Felt like watching someone walk into mist to never be seen again. Like letting go of someone who already let go of your hand. You want to save them but it's ALREADY too late. Gods damned that was so sad. Low key we should team up some jam and really just ruin the entire internets day lol. Love a good tragedy. LOVVVE a good tragedy. Bring on all the toxic gay sadness and parent trauma lol.
An intriguing story with a surprisingly actual theme. Will the story be continued?
This game probably isn’t getting a direct sequel, but all of the characters from my games live in the same universe. I plan on having Clarence appear in my long-term project, The Cardinal Park Case, which takes place 20-30 years after this game!
Then I'm curious to see what happens next. I will definitely be playing it.
In my humble opinion, be gay burn church do crime. Just not sometime in the 1900s, they still do lobotomies.
