Well I'm not sure how "retro" this game is but it certainly brings me right back to my elementary/junior high days of watching game tutorials, not specifically club penguin but certainly runescape. The only thing that is missing is the old youtube layout with several "Halo 4 TRAILER NEW!!" videos with 1/5 stars.

While there isn't much in the way of gameplay its a funny little throwback to a time pre-dating youtube drama, multiple ads, and videos longer than about ten minutes.

Out of curiosity where did you get all the windows XP images, did you just take a screenshot of an old computer or find it online?

In conclusion, a nice little So Bad Its Good experience.

I’m glad you enjoyed! :)  I got my the Windows XP windows from Google Images. Then I edited them.

I really liked the premise and details! I recognized the music, though it was extremely loud and I had to lower the volume. I can't remember where I heard it back then, it must have been some WoW video...

The game itself was fun to play through as well! The only issue I ran into was it not recognizing my brackets, since I have a non-EN keyboard, so I had to look up what "(" is on an EN keyboard. That's not a big deal, however.

Very well done! I think this entry was a great fit to the jam's theme.

I’m glad you enjoyed! :D Sorry if the music was loud, while testing my volume was pretty low so i didnt notice.

Yes, it was great! It might have been one of my favourite if not the favourite game premise of the jam!

No problem! I wonder what the best way to get volume balance right is myself. I try to err on the side of making it too quiet, but maybe it still ends up being super loud for some people? I've never actually tried to see if there are any calibration standards to go by, but then again even some commercial games are super loud the first time I start them!

As someone who had 150,000 coins in Club Penguin, I can say that this was a very realistic experience. You wouldn't believe how many times I used to watch crappy videos like this, so it felt like a real nostalgia trip.

I like the premise, which was a surprise from the unassuming title. Your attention to detail was very good. I managed to get 144 seconds, which to be honest is a lot shorter than I remember most of them being. I came out of the game with a big grin on my face, which is never a bad thing.

I’m glad you enjoyed! :D

Well, now that I've figured it out, or have been told how to play it...

I really like the look and feel of this. It's not perfect, but it does a good job of capturing the essence of Windows XP, sketchy hacks, and awkward video tutorials.

It's a neat experience, but it's not a very good game. The interactivity is really unintuitive (as the conversation below can attest), shallow, and without a win or loss condition. In my mind it barely qualifies as a game at all. I don't want to call it bad, it's more like there's not enough there to call it good or bad.

I think this would be a fun nostalgia trip, but not for me personally. I never played Club Penguin and I never watched this type of video tutorial, though I knew about them at the time.

Developer

Yeah, my goal was more to make a cool little experience rather than a fully fledged game. I still hope you enjoyed :)

I enjoyed it, but I'm just not sure how to rate it. It's very different from most of the other entries.

I managed to get to the desktop. Is that the end or am I missing something?

Developer

Sorry if it was unclear. Your supposed to type what you see on the notepad after you get to the desktop. Like a 2009 tutorial video. I’m gonna update the description of the game.

It wasn't responding to input at all. I'll try it in another browser.

EDIT: It took my input, but nothing happened.

Developer

After your done typing have to press backspace to get to the next line. As I said i'm updating the description sorry :/
