Awesome premise, nice gameplay. Altough I really really liked it as is, increasing the amount of visual feedback (diming the light when you change the lighting slider, or changing the color from the toxin/acid sliders) and possible interactions (something like a minigame to prevent potentially catastrophic accidents or change/unlock some of the sliders?) would take the game to a whole other level!

interesting, i love biological evoloution games but the idea has me a little confused.

it would be neat to be able to be more "precise" with the slider.
I'd also find it interesting to "see" the volution as it  happens in a more visual way in the vat.

Will see who gets the strongest organism.

good luck and nice submission

Developer

I really wanted to have it be more visual of what the organisms go through and how they look/act but considering I'm terrible at art I had to scrape the idea till some other time later๐Ÿ˜‚

I think the slider isn't the best way to have the most control over the environment although adding more precision and more effects would certainly be cooler

Thank you!

cool game

I like how cozy your game is, just sitting there in a lab chilling with micro-boys. I was a little bit confused by the stat changes and how running the same environment affects them, but that's probably on me. Great job!

Developer(+1)

so under the hood, there is an actual genetic algorithm simulating natural selection.

So whenever you click, around 1k microboys with stats above or below the value on the screen are generated, and then they evolve a bit and the best one is selected for the next step.

So the same environment causes them to change differently due to random mutations

Oh wow that's cool!

How big my microorganism can be? I stop at 200%

Developer

There is no cap๐Ÿ˜‚
it's as strong as you can make it๐Ÿ˜‚

I felt lost at first until I understood the mechanics of the game, excellent use of the theme of the jam

Love the simulation aspect! I think others already covered this, but I second that seeing the organism as it grows would be really rewarding to the player!

Submitted(+1)

would be cool to see the organism sim visualized. really cool!

Idea could use more work as it seems too easy once I figre out what to do.

Evolution theme fits well but where is high score aspect?

Developer

I originally planned multiple microorganism types with some difficulty scaling but didn't have enough time to fully implement it.

Your dominance score, which is calculated based on your survivability to all environmental changes is saved and sent to a leaderboard, I forgot to add the UI for it ๐Ÿ˜‚

I thought the concept for this was really awesome, but I wanted to see a sprite grow or something to indicate what was happening. Was fun to keep my stats in the green and grow the cultures on the 2nd screen!

Developer

Yes, I originally planned to do this but I suck at art so they didn't look at all pleasing๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I eventually had to scrape the idea bc I didn't have time to draw all the possible evolutions and stuff.

The idea is the best one out of most projects I saw here! Though ngl it gets a little boring over time... Might be missing the point of the game :x
Still, it deserves a high rating!

Developer

yeah, I thought it would be a bit more fun but only realized later on that it was lacking once you try a couple of times.

Maybe after the jam I'll get some ideas to make it a bit more fun๐Ÿ˜‚

I love the concept of evolution through enviroment! Gives me of Sebastian Lague ecosystem simulation! It would be nice to shorten a bit tutorial, or made it "textless". However, amazing work!

Developer

It was actually one of the inspirations ๐Ÿ˜‚

yea the tutorial was basically an animated wall of text which isn't cool. Maybe after the jam I'll be able to tweak it๐Ÿ˜‚
