the game is very beautifull, but you must focus on gameplay or poeple are not gonna dislike you game. you forgot to turn side force to 0 when we release the keys. I know its raining, but the cat slips too much. Anyway, i found the atmosphere very nice ! good job in global

Developer

I didn't forget to turn side force to 0. you should be more careful in the rain.

When we press the buttons, we keep the same speed that when we realesed.

HERE IS A FIXED VERSION OF THE GAME WITH CONTROLLS ADDED AND BETTER LIGHTING, SUPPOSIVELY FIXED RANDOM CRASHING BUG. https://cyclonekitten.itch.io/fixed-cat-and-mouse-and-guns-and-rain

Submitted

You genuinely had me wheezing because of that control scheme
Who would have thought of making a cat a car! With a gun! Amazing concept :D

The visibility is a bit hard because of how dark everything is, and I couldn't quite understand what happened when I di  got splashed, but still, nice effort :)

wdym by making a cat a car, do you mean that it drives like a car and can drift, well that was me sucking to create controls for it, and i decided to keep it since it raining and slippery. The visibility has been fixed for a version so if your far behind it lightens up.

Yeah, that. Well even if that was not intentional I find it a great touch :D
Oh, I see!

Cool game! I like this night and rain style, it reminds me the game shadows of doubt.

Thankyou, the main reason I focused abit more on asthetics is about my theme, cats outside at night. Some never come home because of cars. I am not good at creating good art so I focused more on it this game jam, lacking abit on my controls. (I ran out of time).

Great game love the dark aesthetics!

Developer

Your game was amazing too! All of the idea to protect the rubbish is perfect for the theme cats+guns.

The music is good! But there is a problem with management. The style is not bad. I didn't quite understand what I had to do 😅

Developer(+1)

You first go down from the house and turn right, you will eventually ( after like 6 seconds) reach an autoscroller and then have to avoid cars and then shoot mice.

I really like the atmosphere of this game, the soundtrack fits in very nicely with the game!

Cool game! I really like how you established the mood here. I think that's what stood out to me the most about this game. The rainy night, lighting, music, and tension (and 'hopelessness' of being an infinite thing) come together to create a nice atmosphere.

Some things to work on: Having a point light around the cat is smart and important especially in a dark environment, but if I fell behind as the camera autoscrolled, that light would sometimes disappear and I would completely lose track of the cat and die. Also, those light blue enemies stunlocked me by hitting me and pushing me to the wall and combo'd me to death, not sure if that's intentional or not. Also I noticed I could avoid a lot of obstacles by sticking to the south sidewalk, but eventually I ran into collision so you probably had foresight of that haha.

Also, the way you turn in the opposite direction initially when you turn left or right was kind of jarring and didn't feel very intuitive to me, I'm curious of why you made that design decision.

Overall nice game, I managed to break 2k. Hope to see what else you can do in the future

Developer

I totally agree with you on many points. The light that follows the cat could easily appear above it. The police ( blue enemies) are abit too strong and need to be weaker (or removed), the sidewalks used to contain many hazardous objects but avoiding cars became too hard so I removed the hitboxes. The design for the turning right is most people are right handed and a right sided autoscroller is what is most common since (most people) we read left to right. And there were arrows on the road, maybe i distracted people too much to not look at the road for arrows. A few bugs could definitely be fixed in 10 minutes and make the game alot better in general but i didn't have enough time.

The controls take some getting used to, but it makes for a nice challenge trying to dodge the cars. Cool game overall!

Developer

Also press key space for a boost forward.(May be buggy). Also the physics make it so when turning you get some force applied forwards, making a wiggle of one frame from left then to right while holding forward would be the fastest way to move.

Great job for a 13 year old, each game jam is a step towards getting better!

Thanks, I just didn't expect this jam project to become so big.

Scorespace is always a big one :)

definitely a little confusing to start haha, but its a pretty solid game. The movement is slippery but I get why it is ( i mean its raining right) once you understand the movement its actually quite fun, and the music and arts not bad.
