This is pretty great and feels very polished for a jam game. The tutorial was very good at teaching me how to play. Really cool mix of snake and crazy taxi. Kudos!

Everyone loves trains! the snake train!

The vibes! I really like the audio! And there's a nice story too! With a cutscene!

A very nice take on Snake :)

Cool take on an old mechanic

Thanks for playing!

love the delivery addition to snake game. it's really fun! i personally wish movement is a bit more smooth tho. i understand you're going for the essence of retro snake moving one block at a time but i would personally enjoy a smoother movement more. Anyways, great game!

Developer(+1)

I kept the grid based movement to make it clear when you would or wouldn't smash into a wall, etc - smooth movement would be interesting to try but would come with some challenges to make sure players aren't crashing when they didn't think they would. Thanks for the suggestion though, and thanks for playing!

I agree with the challenges and that we can't burn the candle at both ends.

I don't know If I've ever played a "snake like" before and this was fantastic, basically a reimagination of a classic!

I know this is something most people don't think about, but your color choices were maybe the worst possible choices you could pick for color blind people, I really wish the green one was blue or white or black or purple or literally anything else since the colors you chose blend in together for me, but I understand that it's a problem specific to me.

Gameplay vice I would've loved for either the map to be smaller, or for the train to move faster to begin with. Start of the game was a bit too slow for me. If you wanted to expand the idea further, i'd love to see different maps with different obstacle configurations.

Over all it was really fun to play, graphics were very simple which worked very well for a "snake like", and the idea of putting in a small twist to a classic genre that hasn't been revisited is something I may want to try myself in the future! Great job!

Thanks so much for playing and for your feedback! If I expand this after the jam I will make sure to keep accessibility in mind more and will re-think the colours.

Different obstacles/maps is definitely something else I have in mind, and there's probably some balancing to be done there as you noticed - my only concern with a smaller map would be having it be too difficult at top speeds, but that's where playtesting comes in!

You've really brought a new twist to the classic Snake game, and the special animation effects on the train carriages are impressive. Great job!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed, thanks for playing! I was inspired by the recent UFO 50 where they took some classic game mechanics and went deeper on them, I'm really happy with how it turned out!

I've played the most thrilling game of Snake. Very cool.

Yo this game is actually very fun! A great twist to snake like game! I want to see a full polished version of this. I very so much loved this game, I'm going to play a few more times today, not satisfied at all with my score I know I can do so much better lol

Developer

Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm actually considering polishing this version up for a mobile release, perhaps with a few extra levels or with some power ups. Good luck getting a higher score (I've been trying all day to beat the Unknown Player at the top of the leaderboard currently!)

Developer

You got a new high score, nice one! I'm curious how long it took you?

And I just did it again! Not too long, the strategy for me is when the train is too fast then I just offload them all which will slow it down and then pick up speed again. I asked myself why I died the last time but I discovered why! There is a bug on speed up it seems where it will cause the train to move 2 cells at once.

Oh darn - hopefully that's not happening too often! I don't think I've run up against it myself so it must be a pretty rare occurrence, I think I actually know where that might be happening so should be able to fix it once the rating period is over. I'm so glad you're enjoying it enough to keep playing!
