I don't know how many hours were put in in this project. I didn't expect the game to be this big, there is even a fast travel. Only explored the starting area and parts of Salem village (?) in the West. The only four stars score I gave is for sound design. There probably not so much you can do for Game Boy game, except maybe for npc sounds. Is there a chance you wrote music yourself?
I wasn’t clocking the hours, but there is also a Salem town area thats more of a developed area. I did make the music myself and I wanted to focus on that. I f I had more time, I think Npc and general SFX would be a good addition. Thank you! I think for my next game, I’d try to downsize the map a bit to make it more digestible.
Love the zelda style adventure game combined with point and click idea behind the game! The big pictures you can interact with are definitely the coolest part of the game for me. I played for a while and was impressed by how much dialog and areas were in the game and could see that you were clearly meant to start a big chain of events to go through the story and progress the game. I got as far as I assume the first step by finding the deed, but felt a bit overwhelmed about where to go next and decided to come back to it later. A great game with lots to do and cool mechanics, even if sometimes it felt a bit TOO big so stupid players like me didn't know what to do next 😅. Great entry!
And here's a video of my part of my playthrough if it's useful for you as a developer:
Thanks for playing! I think for the time I had and for the benefit of all players, it would be nice to downsize the map. I had a lot planned out and wanted to incorporate it all, but it makes it a but hard to go through. Maybe more focus could then be put on the interesting parts like dialogue and investigation.
I'm trying to play but I'm not able to get past the screen that says "a game by Dalton Patton"
Are you playing on your computer or on your phone? I've been fixing some bugs. I noticed on PC you need to click into the game before it allows keyboard controls. Z and X are A and B buttons. Start is Enter and I think Shift is select but I didn't program it to do anything. Let me know if you have any issues
I really like how the point-and-click elements are integrated to the game and work nicely with the visual. There is great potential for horror in it!
But I'm a bit confused overall. It would have been cool to get more interactions with the villagers (a lot didn't seem to say anything) and objects around, but of course there was a time limit so it's understandable. Didn't help that I had to start the game over since I got soft-locked twice in random places.
Good work regardless!
Thank you! I wanted to have more dialogue with the villagers but I ran out of time. Still some bugs I'm working out so I'd love to hear more feedback if you have any!
That's so understandable, time limits are double sided coins.
Tbh for more feedback, I think you got vibe down, so just adding dialogue, interactions, sound effects, etc. is the only thing I can think of, but even with those sometimes it's better to be minimal. I mean of course something like settings / audio settings are always good, but you have a nice feel in it, despite the bugs. It's probably a bit much to add with such a limited time, but considering future development :) Good to hear you are getting the bugs out tho!
Thank you so much! I'm a new dev so I value these learning experiences. Please check in with the game after the 2 day bug fixing period that they allow and it might be a little closer to what I was going for. I also did a lot of research beforehand which may have bogged me down due to so many elements I wanted to add, but maybe they can be incorporated in the future. Thanks again for your feedback!
