I got it working under Linux in a web browser. A small but significant issue, is that some resources are referred to in ‘plugins’, but yet the folder is named ‘Plugins’. This is for the Windows build, as the Linux build for some reason has many files missing. Windows is case neutral, whereas Unix and Linux isn’t and ‘plugins’ is different than ‘Plugins’. So in theory this game should be able to run under Linux perfectly when these configuration issues are ironed out.

Developer

Ah thanks so much, I really wouldn't have known to begin there. My Linux computer is crunched but I'll try running Linux in windows if possible. There are no modifications to this project other than plugins so if that works perhaps it will correct it for all Linux users. I'll ask my friend to playtest it with the corrected folder name.

I haven't finished it yet. I got incinerated (I was considering whether I needed to turn the valve at the bottom before jumping down for too long apparently) and then realized I hadn't saved and would have to start over. I'm gonna move on to see the other games, but I'd like to return and finish it. I'm interested to see where it goes!

Developer

haha i hadnt thought about how some of the puzzles might be percieved that way such as the valve and the timing of the incinerator.
An autosave somewhere before that would have been good. With more time I'd have added more to the story and the puzzles/battles, but it can be beaten and there is a somewhat difficult maze near the end. Thanks for commenting

The game does not run on my Linux (Arch) machine. When trying to run "nw" from the terminal I get a lot of Fontconfig warnings and errors before finally it crashes with an access violation. I will try the Windows version with Wine.

Edit: Windows version in Wine does not work either. A window titled "Zombie" openes, but it stays black apart from some texts rendered above each other. I can only make out "Failed to load img/characters/$!blood.png".

Developer

thank your for letting me know!
a javascript plugin is looking for the blood.png but rmmv did not know to deploy it, so i will disable that script
the reason for the window being titled zombie is that i created this game within another project of that title
i will upload the corrected files shortly

Developer

I've uploaded the corrected files.

Thanks, sadly I had no luck again. The Linux version has the same behaviour as before. I searched a bit for Linux specific problems with RMMV and found this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/RPGMaker/comments/dj3fnw/linux_problem/

So I downloaded the current version of nw.js, and indeed that got rid of the Fontconfig problems. However, in the window that opens I can only read "Failed to load: js/plugins/Community_Basic.js". Tried the Windows version in Wine again, also no luck, but it seems the messages are different. I can make out "Press F5 to restart the game", but that didn't help.  Updating that version with the appropriate nw.js package made it worse since I didn't even get those messages.

wow! i swear my friend has been playtesting it for me, im a little turned around well!
my friend has playtested these setup on pc, i think it is probably an issue of the javascripts running in linux or through wine in linux, if that makes sense?

i am asking him to playtest it again

I also have been struggling to get it to run, with the same problems as mentioned. I am also running Linux. I will come back in a few hours and see if you have found a workaround, but need to sleep now. Go well.

I don't think it will run in linux or wine for now, or even remote desktop. The javascripts and the way it is using graphics etc. does not seem to work yet. I think if I eliminated the light plugin and a few other things it'd work, but then the visual appeal would be reduced significantly. In a next game I will consider these posts when trying to make it more linux compatible. Thanks for commenting

I have been playing with trying to get some Windows games running in Steam via Proton. Had some mixed results so far, and may try out your Windows build this way, for curiosity’s sake. Also did you use Construct for development of this game?

Developer

I used only rpg maker mv and some Javascript plugins. I'm not familiar with what construct is.
