Love the concept, love the art and had a lot of fun with this one. The puzzle elements worked really well and were fun to solve. The only thing...those darn stairs hehe :-D, they were basically the final boss for me.
Fantastic work! Enjoyed it alot.
this game has such an amazingly cool concept!! i love what you did with the idea of reincarnation, and how you were able to communicate to the player what they needed to do to solve certain puzzles and progress without an overload of textual information. (such as the placement of "karma checkpoints" like the dog and the prisoner nearby where different forms would be necessary.) not to mention how well this fits in with the theme!
there were definitely technical limitations, as some other people already pointed out. (i.e. the buggy stairs slowing me down while the timer was going, and a few instances where pressing E to interact with an object crashed my game completely.) additionally, i found the text and the UI fairly difficult to read, and if you were ever interested in patching this game at a later point, i'd recommend making the both the dialogue and the karma bar in the upper right a little bigger to make it more accessible.
that being said, it's awesome how much you were able to accomplish given the jam's timeframe, and i really enjoyed playing through this game! i'd love to see these concepts explored more in future projects and i can't wait to see more from you! ^^
Hey, thank you very much for taking time to play our game and for the great feedback, glad you liked it!
It would sure need some more polish - thank you for pointing out the UI readability, definitely something to consider for any game.
We won't have time to further explore this concept anytime soon as we are currently working full speed on a different puzzle game called "It's a wrap!". If you're interested to see what we're up to you can also check out our twitter where we regularly post updates: https://twitter.com/StudiosChanko
Hope to see you there! ;)
nice
Thanks ;)
Movement could have more polished.
I had Limbo Vibes, Asthetics are well done!.
Liked the Karma Thing.
Thank you, a comparison with Limbo sure is the best compliment we could hope for ;)
You're right, unfortunately we ran out of time before we could polish the movements.
The order of Polish if you have free time on the next jam.
1 - Audio, is the most important polish you can have if your game already have decent mechanics.
2 - Feedback : All the things you do should give player usefull information : Just look at all the interactions on detail and provide feedback to the player all the time.
3 -Tutorial : Is the way to engage the player into the game and show him the basic mechanics... dont think about a huge tutorial you culd just crete a waiting room to test all controls and then start the game.
Short game with constant feedback and game feel > Huge game full of content and no propuse.
A game is a succession of small meaningful choices
Thank you for the detailed feedback, this is great food for thought, much appreciated!
This game is a cool take on the theme, and I think it works well exploring how sometimes doing bad things can lead to worse things, once you stop caring about being bad? All I know is that I became an amoral killer faster then I'd like to admit.
I think the stairs need a rework, in a game with a timer they're too unreliable and I found myself wasting time jumping around them. And it would be good to have optional paths to some switches/keys. I had one switch that I think I was supposed to be the bat for, but I managed to get with the spider instead!
Thank you for your feedback, glad you liked it! Yea, this game brings out the bad in us :P
The buggy stairs definitely gave us more than one headache but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to completely fix them
Interesting take on karma and rebirth! I love the aesthetics and how doing good or bad things has an effect on gameplay (through kind of being reborn as!) Good job :D
Very cool concept, great aesthetic, and a dog you can pet!
