I really like the exploration and directionality requirements of the doors, which force you to find the correct route. A couple things I did notice is that it does not seem like the button on the bottom right is entirely necessary as you can just move into thing to interact. I also noticed that you cannot go back up the stairs unless you are facing them. Again, the dungeon crawler concept is great, would love to see more of this!
The button on the bottom right is meant to be an interact button from another personal project that uses this engine, but the only event spaces I used were auto-activating anyway. I only didn't remove it for time, and because it didn't do any harm by remaining.
This is a really nice-looking game and it really does feel like an old-style dungeon crawler. It took me a little time to get used to the controls, but the feel was great considering the limited amount of time given to develop the game. There's a lot of potential to tap into here, so I encourage you to continue developing this. Good work!
Fun you should mention that, most of the code in this project was taken from another project I'm working on. That said, I used this project as a chance to further along some things I needed to do anyway for that project. Basically, I'm definitely going to continue working on this. Thanks for the compliments!
(major reason the controls ended up so awkward was that the initial project wasn't designed with mobile controls in mind ^^')
I really like the aesthetic, it reminds me a lot of old school dungeon-crawling RPGs. One thing I noticed, however, is that when you move down a floor the player is brought back a little instead of seamlessly being able to move immediately. I also got an error after reaching the second stairway to level 5, which stopped the game. Other than that though, I really was enjoying the game!
That's actually an intended thing with the camera, meant to prevent it from clipping into the stairs. It moves forward before the player descends, then moves back into position after they're done climbing down the stairs.
Curious about the error you got on floor 5. Can you go into more detail?
