Very cute game, I wish it spent more time in the oven design-wise so that its just a bit clearer for the player. Very silly, great character writing, and interesting structure!

Developer

Me too, there were many things that had to be cut short in order to reach the deadline lol

Thank you for your kind words and for playing!

I didn't expect to laugh so much, and the voices really sold the story ✨

Developer

So glad we managed to make you laugh lol yes, the VAs were amazing, each and every single one of them!

Thank you for playing!

That was so much fun! The characters surely have so much personality and their VAs really bring them to life! I love the jokes and how much Sieg got bullied wwww

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! I'm sure Rads will love to read that last part hahaha. Thanks for playing!

I enjoyed numerous aspects of this visual novel, including the following: the entire setup, which calls to mind Monsters University, a movie I adore; the wide cast of characters, each with a distinct design and an impressive array of expressions; the moments of exploration; the voice acting; the whole coffee debacle (I know how crucial access to quality coffee can be as someone highly dependent on caffeine); the vampire and his challenges with garlic; the references to bombs from the FF series; the small glimpses of meta; and -- how shall I say this? -- the vibrant surprise that occurs at the end of the story.

I should mention that I sometimes felt like I was playing catch-up and was not getting the inside jokes of this group of friends. However, that's to be expected since I haven't read the prequel. Also, I don't play many Unity games so I couldn't figure out how to access the menu for saving, loading, and other game options. That didn't detract from my experience, though!

Overall, this was super fun and light-hearted and wholesome! A hearty congrats to your team for releasing this cool game!

This is one of the most lovely reviews I've readed, thank you for that!

This game in itself calls to mind many, far too many references, and I sometimes find myself between the sword and the wall, trying to scape them, but in the end it's like, yeah well, it's for the sillies! lol

As for the inside jokes, yes, I tried to make it as friendly to new players as posible, hope that didn't detract you from the experience that much!

As for the Unity interface, well, it's another world. Our programmer managed to come up with a saving system, which consisted on the X you can see above. It basically quits the game and saves the nearest saving point you accesed, for you to continue from there when you open it again. Other than that, there's no menu or save files, as that doesn't come stock in Unity. Glad, however, that it didn't get that much in the way!

Again, thank you so much for playing and for the kind review!!!

(Note: Should have answered here first, but oh well, double answering now lol)

"McTagonist is right for once"

Freak yeah, I loved re-visiting the Freakaversity and meeting all the lovely characters again! So many funny moments. Siegfried forcing himself to eat food with garlic. Phoebe buying coffee, that cute BeleyXGee ship. honestly I loved everything. I had some genuine laughs. Also that technicolor ending absolutely nailed it.

Everyone did an amazing job in the VA department bringing this characters to live! Oh the art looks absolutely stunning and fits perfectly for the mood of the game!

Thank you for making this game! Looking forward to more college adventures next year! :)

Developer

Soooo glad you liked it, and so glad to read someone who played the first one as well. Also, good pick with Phoebe and the coffee lol

The VAs TOTTALY nailed it, as well as the art and programming team! Glad it brought out some laughter xD

And haha, we'll see about that :P

A fun one! The characters are charming, and their personalities come through quickly. I'm impressed by the number of expressions they each have too! The (mostly) black-and-white is a fun choice too - makes it really feel like an old monster movie, which plays well with the vlogging theme. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Glad it came through that way! And yeah... haha... mostly!

Developer

So glad that you enjoyed - it was a LOT of fun designing all the characters >:)

This was a lot of fun once I managed to figure out why I couldn't start the game x3 I felt like such an idiot, haha. Basically, I always fullscreen stuff at the first available opportunity, and for whatever reason, when I did that, it cut off part of the top of the screen and I didn't realise >.< So I was basically missing the start game menu option, haha. I managed to get it back by resizing the window anyhow! It just took some fiddling around. I was worried I was gonna have to ask you guys how to start the game, and then I would've felt even dafter xD

Anyways, I love the energy in this! The art style is cool, the story is a lot of fun and made me smile, the voice acting is brilliant (I especially love Phoebe x3), and it's just a lot of fun overall! I haven't exhausted anything close to all of the choices yet, but I've enjoyed what I've seen so far :3

Developer(+1)

Oh but, do tell me. Was this in browser, or in PC version?? I guess it was in PC, since I just tried that out. Thank you for letting me know this! That shouldn't be happening lol

So glad you could enjoy the game anyway after that tho!! And about voice acting, haha, you read their names, I think you know them xD

As for options, well... whenever you can pick Phoebe for stuff like the coffee... you wanna do it ;)

Submitted(+2)

Ah, man, I'm an idiot cos I really should've said which version I was playing earlier x3 but yeah, it was windows PC download rather than browser!

Honestly, I have had so many UI issues with Unity it drives me insane T_T I don't know how you guys even manage to use the stuff you use and get things working so well! I've got Naninovel, which helps, but the UI problems are still a big terror for me xD The auto-scaling almost never works for me >.< I beg, and I beg, pleeeease just scale the way you're supposed to... but it refuses to play ball and I'm not a proper programmer, so I've had to resort to forcing 16:9 fullscreen as the only supported option >.<

Oooh, yeah, well, I only know Lauren and Jerron, who were both an absolute pleasure to work with last year ^-^ Both blow me away every time I hear em in something cos the versatility in their voices is insane! :D The whole cast in this sounds great though :3

I see :o intriguing! On first playthroughs, I tend to kinda make snap decisions as fast as I can without thinking too much about where they might lead just to kinda go in blind and end up with whatever my gut gets me to x3 But I tend to give it more thought when I go back through stuff!

Actually, I should have said earlier as well, regardless of my love for Lauren's epic voice acting talent, I'd still pick Phoebe as a fave, and that's quite unlike me cos I almost always prefer masculine characters in stuff! So just goes to show Phoebe is best gal <3 I feel like if I'd had someone like that around when I was at school many years ago, I wouldn't have endured so much school-related trauma xD

Developer(+1)

Hey, you're cool! Asked because I myself had trouble with the browser version lol

Unity is a butt pain, and you have UI problems with it because Unity is a twat that makes sure no one uses it for ever and ever everyday :P Also, we use it becausae Zach, our programmer, is a wizard that pulls an entire system from scratch just to tell unity to behave xD But yes, considering on switching to Ren'Py. Even during this jam, we considered it, but since Jam Garden in general has experience with fmod + unity, we went with that.

Haha, I kid you not, I recognized Jerron's voice... from The Graveyard Shift. I was like... hey wait, where were you on last year's spooktober? And then realized lol But yes, ALL of them were great, and a breeze to work with, couldn't be happier about our VA talent's, both them as persons and in their work, just marvellous.

As for your last coment... YES. Phoebe is, narratively, a force of nature. She bends the plot to her very will, ALLWAYS to help others. Fills me with joy reading that because yes, that's exactly what I thought when I began writing her. She's your guide, your friend, and will pummel any twat that crosses your way in a bad manner xD

Submitted(+1)

Ah! The troubles never end T_T haha.

Well, I guess it’s good to know that it’s not just me xD I always just feel so incompetent, haha. And well, Zach must indeed be a wizard because I don’t think I could get Unity to do the things I want it to do in a million years x3 Switching over to something else must be a pain in the butt too though >.< I’ve been tempted many a time to try and learn how to use Ren’Py as well, but I don’t like change, haha. So atm, I’m sticking with the devil I know!

Oh, man, that's amazing that you recognised Jerron’s voice from that xD especially considering Jerron was in a whole host of spooktober games last year, haha. I managed to fail at my task to play everything from last year’s jam, and I feel like it’s gonna happen again this year too T_T there’s just not enough time in the world.

Tbh, I’m very lucky that my best friend has aspects of Phoebe in her, haha, but if I wanted to say that to her as a compliment, I’d have to get her to play the game because if I just show her the picture of the character on the game page, she might take it the wrong way xD

"Hey you look just like this one eyed enthusiastic gal"

Yeah I see no problem in telling that to someone :P

Developer(+1)

So happy to hear you enjoyed playing! Couldn't have asked for better voice talent, they really brought this to life!! AND PHOEBE BEST GAL!!!!!

All hail Queen Phoebe ^-^

This was such a fun read! The characters are so lovable; Phoebe's energy and explosive personality really won me over! It was really funny too, Siegfried's attempt to scare an Italian being my personal highlight. Lots of fun options for dialogue too, I wanna play through it again and try out some different options to see what happens. All in all, a great time perfect for the season!

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thank you so much for playing!! And also... Siegfried trying to scare the italian is, and should be, everyone's favorite part lol

If I were to give you a suggestion... ask Phoebe for that coffee ;)

Developer(+1)

Sieggy's Italian Escapades are some of my favourite too! Mat did such a great job writing and it was always fun to read while I was editing >:) Hope you enjoy any subsequent replays!

Submitted(+2)

I LOVED Pheobe! I also really liked the black/white aesthetic, feels like an old monster movie haha.

Developer

Quite the idea, glad we could achieve it! Thank you for playing!
