Lining up icons with swirling patterns is a very fun hypno gameplay concept. Very, very clever. Surprised I haven't seen it before.

One thing that might elevate that gameplay is a bit of context at the start. Just a few text boxes summarizing the controls, our goal, and what we're working towards would go a surprisingly long way towards encouraging people to engage with this very solid gameplay loop.

Also, Godot game! Very based.

Developer

Thank you! Wanted something like super hexagon to focus players eyes on the middle. And yeah more text sounds great, its just that the message box is a last day crunchā€™s spaghetti code, probably need to refactor somewhat if I add much more dialog. Godotā€™s pretty cool, thereā€™s just some weird stuff happening with importing models. Probably choosing something else for a next 3D project.

Character customization though active gameplay is my favorite kind of customization! I really like the minimalistic uncluttered view of the game world and simple control scheme. I've never seen a rhythm matching mechanic like this one, I like it a lot! The visuals are really nice with all of the right effects. Obscuring the main character's face works really well for setting the tone! A bit of subtle ambient noise in the room could be a welcome addition, but I don't think this game needs music.

A very fun and memorable experience! I would love to see the game (and the protagonist) expanded even further, excellent work!

Ooh dang, thanks so much!

Really tried to make it as immersive as possible, gameplay took a bit of a hit for that unfortunately in the hypno scene. Yeah absolutely some kind of ambient sounds would fit nicely. Tried to make a song for the hypno part but it sounded god awful so kinda got discouraged and never got around to making sounds for the rest of the game. If I make a similar game or a sequel, itā€™s definitely going to be in Unreal. I love Godot but god damn thereā€™s some jank with 3d animations, importing and 3d workflow in general. And I had to downgrade from web to native build anyways.

But so glad you liked it. Thanks for playing and for a lovely feedback!

I found the controls for the hypnosis bit to be a bit unintuitive, maybe using the scroll wheel could cycle between the receptors to pick which one was active? It was also a bit hard to tell when I was correctly aligning them at first, but I picked up on the chimes, which have a really nice sound. Also didn't realize I could click and drag to look around the room until I got to the third receptor lol. (this may be a monitor issue, I have a 1440x900 ) The text also was a bit hard to read for me, but that also might be a monitor issue.

Personally, I love what you did here. The player's model is pretty neat, love how the game makes you participate in the hypnosis by following the spiral. Good work!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Scroll wheel sounds like a good idea. Maybe Iā€™ll mention in the first message you drag the screen to move around. The not aligning stuff is worst with the outer one, and it got worse after I had to reduce the amount of objects spawning to increase performance and they donā€™t work at all at very low fps. The whole hypno scene is a giant mess honestly ahah, but I didnā€™t have time and strength to redesign it. Kinda wanna remake it, but Iā€™ll wait and see if people like this. I think I did adequately well with idea of making the player focus on the center of the spiral, but the execution is a bit off honestly. And yeah forgot to test other screen sizes, sorry about that.

The model is my first try at proper topology and textures, glad itā€™s alright. And so happy you like the sounds hehe, not my strongest area.

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Interesting game, I liked the slow progression of your transformation. Tho, those controls are rough hard to tell which stream I was clicking on. I think leaving the cursor on screen or having a move visual indicator would have helped. I eventually realized I could look ahead which eventually got me following the spiral around.

Developer

Yeah not very happy with the controls. It reads the x distance from the middle. Had it on total distance and the mouse showing initially but didnā€™t like how it looked with the mouse sitting in the middle. Maybe reverting back and adding a circle on each of the stream paths would help. Might make it look too cluttered though, dunno. Or I might just add keyboard controls, thatā€™ll probably solve it. But glad thereā€™s some redeeming qualities hehe. Thanks for playing and commenting!

Neat! It took me a second to figure out how the controls work in the hypnosis section, but once I did it made sense. (Click to change the direction in which the active receptor moves, jiggle your mouse to switch receptors, align them with the floating symbols.) That makes you follow the spiral with your eyes, which is fun. Also enjoyed the design, yes.

Also, thanks for including a Linux build.  šŸ§

Awesome! Yeah the controls are a bit wonky, but wanted it to be a mouse only game. In hindsight I think I should have made it control with keyboard too. Glad you could figure it out and it wasnā€™t too frustrating. Planned it for web but Godot web build broke in too many crucial parts. Linux version is the least I could do. Would have done MacOS too but canā€™t test it atm.
