I think it's a pretty good start! When the street lights were on I thought "this looks absolutely great!", and I think that increasing the flashlight radius would increase enjoyment of the game.

It's a labyrinth type game with a bit of parkour involved and simply-implemented (but hard to solve) puzzles. Atmosphere is eerie and top-notch, minimalistic style adds to it pretty well. I think it's a beautiful project, but could definitely use some polish.

(Spoilers ahead)

I was indeed stuck at getting the red key. This is a bit of moon logic and well, honestly leads to some frustrations in some gamers (like me) though maybe others will think as using lampposts as parkour option will think it as "AHA!" moment. It was frustrating encountering a yellow key puzzle at this point. You look at the light and at the contraption forcing you back and think "alright, just backtrack and turn off the power and we're golden!" but this actually closes the door to the area.

And yeah, I attribute this to the flashlight failure, cause when I can't see crap, it's really hard to look for parkouring solution. The singular light source also makes it a bit hard to distinguish objects' depth, so yeah I just don't think darkness and parkour mix really well (like in real life).

Thank you for your feedback. I made an update to the game in response to your comment and the fact that others had issues too. I increased the radius of the flashlight and added a red hue to the lamp posts lights. I also updated the fog and added contrast between the top half and bottom half of the building to hopefully make it easier to navigate the structure. Its hard for me to notice how difficult it is to solve the puzzles because I know them like the back of my hand.

Checked it out, it plays so much better!

Fantastic job <3

Nice job Karpoonz, a 3D game like this in a week is awesome! The atmosphere is really nice and the idea of using the lamp posts to parkour your way to the key is a really smart idea (even if I missed it).

I encountered a few bugs: One where I fell through the floor after loading in (I think the game was confused as to whether I was still in the menu or started the game?), one where I got stuck on the plank or wall when dropping down after the treadmill, the full screen option didn't work for me, and the quit button also didn't work for me. Nothing too crazy.

Some design notes I thought of when playing were that it was really easy for me to get turned around and lost. I'm pretty bad with directions, both in game and out so this might be more my personal issue, but I think the fog being a close color to the building made it more difficult (also potentially the narrow FOV). My suggestions would be to either make the fog a dark fog, or make the building a different color that stands out more (unless your intention was to make it more difficult to navigate).

Otherwise I really enjoyed the graphics. As someone who is very slowly getting into 3D stuff, I was really impressed with what you put together. Some atmospheric sound would be nice, like maybe rustling leaves or wind, but otherwise fantastic job!

Thank you! This was my first ever game and I decided to go with 3D to force myself to learn it. I've known about the menu related bugs and I tried to fix them but they are issues with the engine and I just haven't found a work around. It terms of the gameplay design, I wanted to keep the narrow FOV and environment as I felt those elements would force the player to be more methodical when exploring the map. I do see your point though, and I will keep that in mind for future projects.

Now I'm even more impressed, nice job! And yeah, Godot has some funky things with the control nodes I also use that engine and get stuck all the time.

If you are feeling stuck.

the game is pretty cool but i don't really get what to do at the treadmill part. the camera control is also super janky and like lags behind

Thank you. I suggest roaming around the top of the building. Also there is a gameplay video linked on the game's itch.io page and at the top of the comments.

Nice lighting and controls too. I think the puzzle system was cool finding keys and using them to unlock sections but maybe I'm too dumb to figure out what to do when you get to the treadmill.

Thank you! If you are stuck, I released a full gameplay video that is linked on the itch.io page here: https://karpoonz.itch.io/blacked-out
