Let me start off by saying that the sprite work for this game is some of the strongest this week. It encapsulates that classical arcade style in my opinion, with great attack animations and variety. However, the lack of combos seemed off to me, such as only having one crouch attack and no jumping attacks. There were some issues to be had, that's for sure, such as player two having their horizontal movements reversed for some reason, as well as ducking not serving a purpose. There were a few other bugs that have been highlighted in other comments, but these were the ones that stood out the most to me.
Overall, I find this game to be not exactly on par with the classics of old, but it is getting there. With a bit of polish, and a bit of "juicing", this could develop into a proper game.
A good submission with very strong visuals and control customisation allowed me to choose bindings which suited me which was a good quality of life feature. Differing characters with a range of attack options created a decent amount of depth to the controls that wasn't mindlessly spamming a single button. Definitely the foundations of a marketable piece here.
I do feel like there may have been some oversights here and there. For example, the military character can hold their special attack key for a rapid onslaught of rockets sending the other character flying across the map and whilst hilarious, perhaps it was unintentional. Another example was the fact that it was hard to tell who was winning in terms of rounds since the round wins boxes didn't seem to change even though it was counting them since I was able to win at some point. Finally, player feedback is definitely needed here, how can I tell if I have hit my target without moving my focus from the characters to the health?
All in all, this was a strong submission with some small issues that negatively impact gameplay, but not to a major degree. As previously mentioned, what you have here is a good foundation to build a marketable game with some further work and expansion. Good work.
Wow the graphics for this game look amazing! The music was a lovely touch and really added intensity to the game but the real standout was the pixel art which looked amazing! The poses were really nicely done and the death guy was the best imo. In terms of the gameplay I found it really easy to 'hook' onto the other character and I wasn't able to attack whilst moving. Other than that it's a really amazing game that you should be proud of. :D
Excellent pixel art and solid gameplay.
The addition of a training mode was extremely helpful to get used to the controls in a safe environment, and to take in the work done to the game's visuals. The most impressive part here is easily the spritework, the designs used are fantastic.
The gameplay, while solid, in my opinion could do with a few more tweaks. I personally found the character's movement speed to be a little too slow, though I feel this could be remedied with a dash movement to quickly close distances or create them.
While this was really the only issue I had with the gameplay, I do feel like there could have been a few animations for each player getting hit or knocked down, however I know that animations take time, so this is only a minor nitpick.
Really solid submission, well done!
A good game, liked how you had a main menu screen to inform the players on the controls that they would need to play the game and a training mode to get used to the controls, I liked that you had background music for this which made the game stand out and make me want to play for longer, the artwork and character design was well done, I would of liked to of seen more levels within this and the win boxes lighting up, but a clear attempt was made and I still enjoyed it and liked the way it looked so well done!
This is really visually impressive, the pixel art is fantastic and I'm impressed by the variety of poses each character has. You've got the basic move set of a fighting game down well, the throw ability is a welcome addition and definitely varies up the gameplay. I love that you had an option to change your keybindings!
I think the game could benefit from some kind of visual indication that you've been hit, even if the character just flashes white or something. I also noticed if you move to far to the left or right the character will get stuck, perhaps there is a gap in your colliders.
Overall this works well as a fighting game, and the addition of keybindings, versus mode and round counters show a good amount of polish beyond the basic gameplay. Nice job!
