Neat concept to find the little oil pockets via seismic laser reflections. but that function is such a minor side thing that the reflection theme is barely used. also the monitor in the bottom left can be in the way. would be nice if you could turn it on and off.
the aiming honestly sux. you can only shoot in the 4 directions + diagonal. which makes it hard to hit enemies that arent perfectly in line and since the aiming also makes you move its even easier to miss you shots. its nice that you heal from consuming the oil. but since enemies are also defeated by walking into them and are always in the oil pockets you can just facetank through them and immediately heal the damage. it would be better if enemies werent defeated by contact and instead of aiming via movement using mouse aim. also using mouse buttons to dig and shoot instead of "j" and "k". that way the shooting wouldnt be so frustrating and you wouldnt just be able to facetank your way through.
the music is way too loud and quite monotonous. since you directly start the game you have no options to adjust volume. also speaking of starting right away: the explanation pictures rush through too fast. not everyone is a fast reader. making it only advance through button press (or click) would be better.
the sprites are cute. but otherwise the visuals are quite monotonous. after a certain depth the oil becomes invisible. i could still hear the sound of yuuma absorbing oil and she was healed but i couldnt see it.
also: windows defender recognizes your game as a risk because it isnt signed... people lacking technical knowledge could get scared off by that (also they might not know that you have to click on "additional information" to make the "execute anyway" button appear, so they might think its unplayable...). so sign your programs...
Hey! I really appreciate your feedback – it’s been super helpful for me in improving my game development skills. I feel a bit silly for not thinking of using mouse shooting instead of the four-direction option (how did I miss that? lol!). Also, thanks for suggesting a better idea than those fast-changing explanation images. ^^
Pretty cool concept. The seismic laser concept is made well though it doesn't play as much of a role as it could. I was halfway through my playtime before i realized it was even a thing.
Perhaps making the map stretch out horizontally to let the seismic lasers cover a wider area, and therefore, you'd have to rely on it more to find where the oil is among the bigger map, would help. You could also dabble in making a story mode with handcrafted levels. I can think of a story boss chasing you as you try to find the oil to heal to be fun in this game.
Oh, I like the story mode idea; it would be better than endlessly generated oil. Thanks for your feedback
Pretty good for a Jam project! Deeper and deeper into the Earth we goo, hope we don't reach the other side of the planet~
Only truly relevant thing I have to say is that the HUD elements do obstruct the view of anything behind them. Making them transparent when an enemy or Yuuma is behind them should fix that.
I have some thoughts about the game balance:
- It's a pretty casual game, with no sense of urgency or escalation. That is fine.
- Though you can preemptively shoot fairies who are always in the oil spots which you know where they are.
- And you can tank damage and keep going with the oil you find right after, just fine.
- Maybe a motivator to encourage good gameplay would be to give the health bar a score multiplier function! Like, the less health you have, the less score you gain.
- And maybe make fairies not shootable until unearthed (wow that sounds weird). It's possible to snipe fairies that are way offscreen below. Neat and bizarre but that's your call.
Overall I'm digging the concept! Carving the soil and finding the oil spots is such a joy, quite unexpectedly. Graphics really cute!
But why are there fairies *buried* inside the earth? And so many of them??
Regarding the HUD, I noticed it's blocking the view. I appreciate your suggestion.
The idea about game balance is also great, thank you!
I noticed that bullets can shoot regardless of whether the dirt has been dug. Thank you for pointing that out.
Your feedback is very valuable to me, thank you so much!
( The reason there are so many fairies under the dirt is that I didn't know what to add for the game's challenge. XD )
fairies are embodiements of nature. lets just pretend those are earth fairies.
Cool idea.
Not much challenge, which is thematic because Yuuma is unstoppable.
Never ends, which is thematic because Yuuma's hunger is unsatiable.
Very Yuuma, would Yuuma again.
Thanks! It is a bit too easy, isn't it? A mechanic that increases the difficulty each time could be a good idea, but how to implement it hmm..
Really cool idea, love the map sonar view display. Would be nice to be able to use mouse to dig and shoot to make things faster. Overall solid gameplay and nice visuals.
The mouse control is a good idea, thanks
