Theme

Hot Spring Town

Correlation to theme
When I think of hot springs, I think of relaxation and leisure, so musically, I wanted the piece to have a very calm, maybe curious, vibe as the player stumbles upon this fun new town.

The instruments I chose were a sine-wavey synth, horn synths, and fun pizz. cellos along with campfire percussion sounds, and my goal was a gen 4 pokemon/animal crossing feel. Additionally to emphasize the relaxing feel of the town, much of the A section was recorded live without strictly snapping to the 4/4 rhythm. I wanted the piece to feel very human.

The piece takes its time, makes use of silence, and is fun at the same time! If you'd like to listen to the quality of the loop, the Soundcloud upload contains the loop! Thanks for listening!

I really like your staccato horn melody! Like many Nintendo games, it sounds simple at first glance, but there is actually a lot of intricacy under the surface. You use many non-diatonic and chromatic notes that add a different color to the piece than if you had simply stayed in only major or only minor. That color for me is one that is relaxing and at the same time jovial and playful. Overall great work and thank you for sharing!

I like this! The calm feeling, due to the silences and soft instruments, fit the hot spring theme well. I also like the change at 1:06 to a bit more full composition, yet keeping the silence in there. I can totally feel this in an Animal Crossing (and even Pokemon) setting! And yes, the loop works nicely ;)

I read that a section was recorded live - that answers my intuition, as some parts at the start were slightly off-rhythm and had different arpeggio-speeds. Nice job! Overall, well done :D

I think you nailed pretty good the town theme, Really feels like a town from some random RPG game.

Nice!

Thank you Bored Cube!!

This is great. I think you nailed what you were going for, that kind of small pokemon town, maybe like on a day when there is a town fair or something as well because of some of the instruments. The structure follows the theme and guidelines really well I think too, I could see this being a very effective track in an actual game.

Thank you! :))

Excellent use of silence. It's rare to dare to have so many moments without any sound. The calm it brings is great.

It's just a shame you didn't get a better sound quality for your horn, you'd have gained in overall quality.

The synth wave sound is simple and sweet. Very well chosen.

Thanks for the comment and feedback!! :) I did aim for a very simple horn sound, but you're right. The horn could've been better.
