Somehow it sounds like a concatenation of 'Hot Spring' with 'Pinball' - the instruments feel techno-y and have a wild beat to it, fitting the pinball theme; yet the flute, Koto, water-sounds and overal softness of the song fit the hot spring theme well. Very interesting! The song sounds great, as I know from your previous Town Music Jam entry. Well done :D

One general note though: I would suggest you to upload an .mp3 file of sorts next time, as entries without submission are not considered when looking for "submissions in need of ratings". It almost prevented me from seeing and rating your entry! And besides, without .mp3 I cannot add this song to my iTunes for regular listening (and I am tired of sketchy online converters) :)

I really like retro styled music, after all chiptune is my favorite genre of music. And I originally intended to make the pinball city theme but couldn’t make it work, maybe some of that influenced the song.

I will eventually upload .mp3 files, but I’m trying to add every single submission I’ve made into one single project, to not have a million projects on itch.io. Just need to order my files.

Also instead of sorting by “submissions in need of ratings”, I sort by “haven’t rated”, because it just counts how many submissions there are unrated, you should try that. Still thanks for the advise. :D

Cute song! I really liked the instrumentation and overall groove, but the only thing that didn't stick so much to me was the initial melody with the koto. It felt a bit busy to listen along but once the synth took over it sounded smoother. But other than that I liked the track!

Good instrument choice for the theme I think, and some really distinct phrases within the song that keeps things varied and interesting! It's cool because at the start I thought you were going one way, but then you pumped the energy up and went a whole different way! It sounds great!

Glad you liked it!

really nice track. i liked the sound of the drums, they add some nice energy to the track. i also like the more retro sample/sounds you used.

i'd say maybe work on making the midi sound more realistic but with the vibe and sound youre going for i think the way you composed it works great as is.

great work on this! :)

Developer

Thank you! I really like using retro videogame instruments mixed with normal ones.

This starts very relaxing and I like the initial sparseness. The drums initially surprised me, but then the groove takes it in such a good direction. Contrary to some of the other submissions that took the theme in a more mellow direction, your town seems to have a little more vibrancy which I think is more apt to the theme because it sounds more like a town than only a hot spring. Great work and thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the nice comment!

I like really happy/energetic music, so that is why I made it like that.

This is one of the 3 tracks I’m very proud of making so far and I’m happy that most people had a very positive response to it. :D

I love it! It's got that late-game Stardew Valley kind of panic to it.

The dynamic range could use a little work, but that might just be YouTube's streaming algorithm messing with it. It's always hard to tell.

Developer

I’m glad you liked it!

The dynamic range thing might just be myself, because I’m still learning to add mastering to tracks, so I mess the audio sometimes. One issue for example is that I make the tracks really quiet and I’m working on fixing that.

This was really fun piece, and I love the mix of instruments that you chose. It kept me on my toes. A critique would be that it used a fairly fast tempo, and I was imagining that the player is traveling or doing something exciting, rather than coming across a hot spring town.

It was a create track though, and I enjoyed listening!!

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked it :)

While the process it self of making melodies and chords is really hard for me, I am very good with instrumentation and adding sound effects, especially with electronic/chiptune songs and liminal type songs.

The fast tempo is maybe the residue of the fact I was originally doing the pinball theme and had a faster song as my idea, but I couldn’t make it have the feel I wanted, so I went with the Hot Springs theme. Plus I generally prefer songs with faster tempo than usual (and this song is not that fast anyways).

Hi Bored Cube, it's always a pleasure to see and hear you.

There are some passages that I love: 1'05 to 1'15 and after 1'55. These passages are well mixed and sound great.

You also surprised me with your bass, which doesn't play what's usually expected of it: the root note. And that, harmonically, is great.

There are still passages where the notes are too loud, or where two instruments play in the same medium register. This "saturates" the note frequency and makes listening more confusing. Perhaps you could change the octave of one of the instruments to make the melodies more distinct.

I hope you find this feedback useful.

In any case, I liked it

Thanks for the feedback!

Melodies and countermelodies are not my strenght and I’m trying to improve on that.
