Concept and graphics are lovely, but I couldn't figure out the gameplay. If you had more time, a tutorial or hints would be nice!
Yes. That is true. A level progression beginning with simpler levels would be the key. Sadly I did not have time for that.
This was a very unique game with a puzzle concept I've never seen implemented before. It was annoying at first for me because I believed that Trudy's location was basically random and my success was based on luck, but once I figured out that Trudy tends to settle in certain locations and this was actually a deduction game, it was very satisfying when I successfully inferred her location and won a few games. The way this game teaches you is really elegant--I can only suggest being more generous to the player in the beginning, like changing the game over sound, which was pretty abrupt and added to my slight frustration.
I like to see the usage of Pico-8! The game was fun and I like how the puzzle aspect works, it takes some time to figure it out! Very creative, nice work!
It was confusing at first but realizing the clues to deduce where Trudy likely is was pretty satisfying. great visuals and effects!
Really cool. I think I'm starting to figure out where trudy likes to go. I finally got a win after 7 games or so. I like the concept a lot, it reminds me of minesweeper. Graphics are great too! One suggestion, move Trudy's game over text off the game board, so that the player can study clues for where Trudy spawned. The text was blocking so I couldn't see the clues as well. Or maybe you want it that way for more challenge! Either way, good job!
Thanks for the comment. I moved the text onto the board because I wanted the player to notice that Trudy was speaking but you are totally right: It is much more important to allow players to study the map.
And sure: Minesweeper was an inspiration :)
The other half of FractalFrabricGames just played and won after 3 games :D She is very proud of this and looooves the game. Very rad, creative, and cute <3
I didn't find out the Trudy's location conditions. Sometimes I thought I could but then my theories are denied. But really cool procedural gen. Sure there must be a way to find out.
Cool entry!
A little hint: Try to start at the soil with the grassland. This is the saftest place to begin and there is some important information as well.
Thank you, I'll try to find out later.
Is this randomly generated? I love the art and sounds! Was hard to understand at first, but i got it down, sorta. VERY CHAD GAME!
The map is generated each time but not randomly. There are a couple of rules which tiles can placed where. This is important so you can deduce the location of Trudy. I agree, it's quite obscure at the moment and if I'd redo the game I would shoot for a shallower learning curve.
still, for 3 hours, be proud!
I absolutely loved the retro vibe, graphics, vfx, and sound were spot on! The gameplay was a little bit confusing at first, but grew on me as I played!
Thanks a lot.
Yes. I think a tutorial level would have been good. Or some sort of level progression. Three hours are always so short…
