Nice job using procedural generation in a 3 hour game jam! One gripe I have is the appearance of "gas blocks" seems to be pretty sparse, and they usually come in small veins. So it feels like it's hard to get very far before running out. I would tweak the generation a bit and add some sound effects, but other than that it's a very enjoyable game!
Thanks so much for the comments, glad you liked it! I think a few more minutes tweaking the numbers, as far as the mineral distribution as well as gas consumption/limit would have been time really well spent, for sure.
This is a fun concept! I found myself consistently running out of gas, without really pushing hard to get any ore either, so maybe I'm just bad at this game! ^^;
Good job with the art assets. The core mechanic is fun and is implemented well, with a distinct feeling of gravity and falling. The implementation of the air pockets seems especially good.
I don't feel that this game fits the them strongly in an interesting or innovative way, but I still gave you good marks for an overall good game.
Thanks so much for your comments! Much agreed the main gameplay loop was much too short... Was already over time, so I really should've spent the few minutes of tweaking the gas consumption numbers to make the game feel a bit less luck based.
Also, my approach to the theme might have been just a little too.... Literal XD
It was sound but the speed of the game made most runs almost pure luck to whether you hit gold or gas it needs to find that sweet spot where a players action can make a difference and add a sense of skill on choices of decision. I could see this this idea working well for a long mobile screen.
Thanks so much for the feedback! Agreed on all points for sure, but I'm glad the idea came across pretty well for you!
Pretty fun, I do miss the sounds though, but there is not always time to make them. However the base mechanics are fun enough to carry the game even without sound. This is leagues better than my first submitted trijam game.
Really appreciate it! Agreed- a little time spent on some sound effects would've gone a long way, it's definitely missing that "punch".
Like most of the games submitted at this jam, its a nice and simple little game but in my opinion, the drill's too fast. I think slowing down the pace of the game will surely help new players to grasp what exactly is going on. I also believe some sound effects and music will lighten up the feel of the game but I understand that 3 hours isn't that much time. Still, good job for still making and submitting your first submitted game jam game and good luck on your game dev journey! :)
Thanks so much for the feedback! This was definitely a cool experience :D
This is my first submitted game jam (many attempts in the past). Really dig the concept of (very) rapidly getting from concept to something that is playable. Really pushed me out of my comfort zone and got me thinking outside the box.
