As a big fan of cellular automata I was delighted by this game! Also lovely to see another PICO-8 submission, I also struggled with the instructions/second a bit and had to preload the noise generation. This game created some tense moments of holding out on 2 pixels of grey above a churning sea of acid with mere seconds left on the timer. Great work!
some little bugs but the game is very cool and fit with the theme !
Pixel simulations is always fun, though a bit laggy lol. Good game!
I've started working on the lag/performance issue. Pico-8 has a limited number of instructions per frame on purpose, but I've already managed to optimize performance by a factor 2 or so.
I really like the gameplay, even though the game was lagging it was still fun to think of how to survive the rain. I mostly bunkered myself, though that didn't work on the last levels haha. The visuals are nice too, though I think the color palette should give more contrast to the acid (I'm a bit colorblind, that may be the culprit too, idk). It was also a bit weird to place the dirt sometimes, so I had to faceplant it while placing it to form a wall.
Hmm, yes, I can see how the azure background and green acid might be a problem for color blind people, they are of similar intensity. This is the default pico-8 palette, but I can play around with it.
You can also place dirt directly under yourself, that's a lot easier than sideways.
Great game, audio would be nice and checkpoints as well. Great game!!!
This i great! very cool physics at work here. although having to restart from the very beginning on death is a bit harsh for a jam game.
Yeah, the restart from the beginning was a mistake :-)
I'll fix it after the jam
