Theme takes

I noticed that many games took the theme and just made a 5-minute limit to the gameplay and I think it’s an extremely uncreative and cheap take on the theme, hence why so many people did it the same way!

I agree to be honest but this was also just in general a pretty challenging theme to make fun. A 5 minute limit only really works well for games which are designed around them lasting that long so if the timer is just there arbitrarily it does not really add much to the game.

The theme can be interpreted in many ways, which allows one to be creative about implementing it to their game concept.

I 100% agree with both of you. It does feel like a cop out, but it was really difficult to find an outside the box interpretation. One of my earlier ideas was that you were working from home and had a date after. Your goal was to clean up your apartment in your limited free time before she came over or your extremely neat girlfriend would break up with you. I scrapped that because it would be too much for me in the time limit, but I really liked that one.

I wonder if the theme would have been better if instead of "5 Minute Break" it was instead "2 minute break", or even just "Break" because that would probably let people interpret in a more interesting ways.

'Break' would have been nice. '5 minute break' just paints too specific a picture lol.

Yeah, I’m kind of used to jams doing this so I took it the way it seemed fit for me xD
