How much time was taken?
Under 3 hours for build one, 3 hours for the second build and 3 hours with a lot of last minute crunch for the third :P
Use of theme?
Classic game with novel twist - Play through the iconic level 1-1 from Super Mario Bros as DoomGuy, with a surprise ending!
Use of diversifiers?
Source code (uploaded on itch.io for build 3)
Multiple controls in the post 9 hour build - WASD JK/ Arrow Keys XZ and even controller support!
Colorblind friendly
Main Menu - Well it's there technically :P
Tweeted the jam, edited the theme (way too many times), made a time lapse, doing a postmortem too this time :D
Make a game you've never made before - My first platformer, made in my own framework (written on top of MonoGame) and the first game to be made in that framework! (I call it TinyEngine, because obviously I do. Included in the source files for your amusement)
Did you have fun?

Hey this is pretty fun! and for your own framework? wow that's impressive. I wouldn't mind taking a lok at it it seems really fast. Good job man!
Thanks man! sure you can look at it if you feel like....it's not very clean or anything but does get the job done :D
Yeah I'd love to how can I contact you :') thanks!
I'm CheezGarlick#2453 on discord :) looking forward to hearing from you
Badass game! The movement speed seemed a bit too fast for the game.
thank you for playing!
Hi!
It's a pretty nice game. The combination of Doom and Mario is pretty good. The visuals are amazing.
Jump height was pretty low, but that might just be me. The last boss was a pain to hit lol
Hey it's not just you, the jump height *is* pretty low indeed :D
Visuals were really good! I liked the overall premise (especially given the theme) but in execution it fell a little short for me. It's so easy to die or run out of bullets (and be therefore unable to progress) that found myself playing extremely cautiously. Especially once I got to the end the first time and realized I'd probably need bullets to fight (spoiler alert): the boss.
I think this could have been fixed with some tweaks to jumping. Perhaps having the ability to shoot down in mid-air to jump higher and also shoot a bullet down?
That being said, really strong premise and really impressive work for 9 hours!
The shooting for jumping is indeed a nice idea! I did go back and forth a bunch of times on the jump heights and stuff...then finally stuck to a shorter jump. In hindsight, I should have give it a bit more height or at least some increased hang-time. The death issue is compounded by the fact that there's a very dumb bug where enemies start updating themselves before they're supposed to. Fixing that in the post jam does help the game get a sense of memory based challenge. Otherwise it was just a stupid meat-grinder in the initial builds ^^'
Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll incorporate these into further jams and games :D
I like the visuals my guy!
Thanks mate :D
First of all: I like the visuals. The game looks great.
Secondly: Nice idea for the theme, having a character from a game play a level from a different game.
The controls were a bit tough though. I'm not sure if I missed anything but it seems like you can't jump very high. And on my keyboard layout Z and X are not next do each other (for me Z is next to T, where Y would be in your case, I'd image), which didn't make it any easier to play.
Hey Charlie, thanks for checking the game out.
No you didn't miss anything, the jump indeed is pretty short.
I'm really sorry the controls gave you trouble. If you check the post jam version, you can also play with the WASD JK keys, but I'm afraid I suspect even they might be in a different order on your keyboard. Though you can play with a controller in the post jam version :)
Cool, good to know.
WASD and JK is fine for me. In my Layout they are in the right places.
Glad to hear that!
