There were a few technical aspects with some bugs or flaky behavior but it's a good take on the theme and the level design is solid,  making good use of your core mechanic.

Developer

Yeah, for a few those problems, I hope to figure out what was wrong before I participate in my next GameJam. Would you know how to make the movement more fluid perchance? Thank you so much for the compliments. I hope to see you in future GameJams.

There can be a lot of things contributing to the movement feeling strange, I'd recommend checking out an end-to-end 2d movement tutorial like this one

The combination idea is really good and well implemented. The buttons to control the platforms were a little buggy but the level design suited the mechanics really well. Great job!

Developer

Yeah I don't quite know how to fix that. I'm currently moving with position because it was the best way to get all the pieces to move in tandem. Do you have any pointers on how to fix that buggyness? Also, thank you for the complements. It was my first ever GameJam and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next one. (Oh and also that was my first time ever doing level design so thank you.)

Nice concept and style!

I'm glad that you liked my game, thank you.

Nice first jam game! :D i didnt quite understand the controls but i found you can just jump infinitely by spamming down arrow key XD

Developer(+1)

Wait what you can? Oh that's hilarious. I had no idea huh. Thank you for the help that's really strange.

Developer(+1)

I figured out what it was. When you de-combine with another piece you do a little hop to signal to the player that you have de-combined, but I never put a timer on it so that makes sense. Thank you for telling me about that.

A little glitchy, but an interesting idea! Some audio and animations would go a long way, but really not bad at all, especially for a first attempt, great work!

Developer

Thank you man. Yeah I was actually hoping to add both of those ideas, but I ran out of time sadly. I really appreciate your advice. Thank you man

Love the idea of combining with other cubes to be able to extend where you can reach!

With a bit of extra polish and tweaking this could be a super cool game! Would recommend adding some simple audio (for when you jump, land, and combine with another cube) to give it an extra bit of pizzazz!

Really fun entry, especially for your first game jam!

:^)

Thank you so much for playing the game. Yeah for my next game jam I defietly would want to add audio. I was going to go for an electronic theme since the colors were neon.

Submitted(+1)

Really cool use of the theme, a simple but effective platformer!

Btw when I fell off the map it kept falling to the void and I had to close the game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game, and yeah I was going to fix that but when I remembered that it was a problem. I was 30 minutes away from the deadline. Which sucks. Thank you for the advice though.

I realized that I never stated the controls until after the submission deadline so I’m going to put them here.

Controls:

Movement - Arrow keys or W and D keys

Jumping - Up arrow key, A key, or space bar

Combining - down Arrow key or S key

Please feel free to leave criticism in the comments. This is my first ever GameJam and I had a blast. It was a ton of fun to try to create a game from scratch. I’m looking forward to whatever they do next. If there is a next time, which I hope there will be  because I sucked at this one. However, I also know that “sucking at sumthin’ is the first step towards being sorta good at something.” - Jake the Dog. All I mean by that is a promise that my next one will be even better.

(PS: if this is either of the hosts, I had a ton of fun please let there be a next time.)
