i saw this jam and its literally PERFECT because im sitting here with ren'py just sitting open trying to rack my brain because i LOVE a well written dating sim and i really wanna make one of my own but also the task seems so daunting  and also idk if its the right medium for me so this seems like a good way to test that

but i also cant get rid of that feeling thats like

"oh, you wanna make a bad game? thats bad on purpose? alr cool! lets make the BEST WORST GAME EVER!!!"

y'all feel me

part of it is allowing yourself to make mistakes. no drafts, no erasing, just...do it!

have a shower thought. make that shower thought a reality. put yourself in the headspace of yourself as a ten year old. how would you make a game at the age of ten? that's part of how i do it!

its really hard to turn off that side of your brain! youre not alone in this because even some pals I've talked to who are interested in this jam are having a tough time turning that off too.

i agree with catsket's advice! i want to add to their points too: make it extremely low effort. examples include: make that sprite in 10 seconds with your non dominant hand! trace over your old drawings in ms paint! base the story off a shitpost! keep all the typoes in! the most important thing i hope youre able to take away from the jam is having fun learning something new and having fun making something :D

gah i TOTALLY get this... You described it really well as a 'Perfectionist Demon'. For me this jam is good too as it is my first ever one, so i can go crazy while just exploring the making of a vn in general and scoping and all that. Hoping you will be able to defeat that little guy on your shoulder trying to be all perfect cuz IT DOESN'T MATTER! Go wild! And turn that little guy into mush! WEEEEE

I started my entry an hour ago.  I decided to write a simple theme song in LMMS, and when I went to make it loop, I accidently included the intro to the song in the loop.  I went back to fix it, but stopped myself.  I'm leaving it like that.  It's actually causing me pain!  So that might be part of the process - Don't fix your mistakes!  Now I'm wondering if I should just make the song play like that for the entire game.  My Perfectionist Demon is crying in a corner somewhere and I've only just begun.
