What site did you find these other dxd games on? It's just that so far, I've only found 3 dxd games, and they were pretty decent.
In the f95zone forum practically, there are some DXD games there, that caught my attention, I don't know if you played but Demons of Harem [Black_Cat], Gremory Live [Ch.4] [Kamos] are the only ones I know as a DxD parody , this one caught my attention but the protagonist is Issei made me put this game on the list to play.
That is, if there is any story and relationship at all because I gave a try to Demons of Harem and the best part was when I deleted it because it was nothing but a sex simulation between DxD girls and a random stranger without any purpose, story and relationships building. ๐
I MUCH prefer this one right here which is what I wanted when I watched the anime: the original story but without blue-balling with teasing all the time and nothing ever actually happening because "for all public", I always wanted an adult version in which things DO happen and you have it right here! ๐
I tried Demons of Harem and I liked it, despite the character models not being top-notch like here, it managed to win me over due to the fact that I didn't play with Issei as the protagonist. Although his dragon powers are top notch, his personality is deplorable.
And about the "walking Sex Simulation of Demons of Harem and sex with a stranger", I didn't see anything wrong either, of course there was a lack of a good story there, if Dev knew how to explore it. Maybe it's his first game, who knows, but it wasn't a totally text-loaded game, I've played games like that that promised to be erotic VNs, but in 3 hours of play I didn't see a perverted scene. I like it when Dev adds a perverted scene every 30 minutes of the story. Like here, I just played Devil's Academy DxD and found it acceptable. after all, Dev knew how to balance the story and perverted scenes.
And what really killed me here was the boring "sacred flames" and chess minigames that you need to do to be able to follow the next chapter. positive point, I can change Issei's name to mine and show a different character as I would like to be, the choice options in the answers help me make Issei less Simp.
Anyway, I would even recommend Gremory Live [Ch.4] [Kamos] to you, however, he is a Dev who develops his games through the patron community pool, and most of the time when he does a poll it is always the same game "Sarada Training " who wins the poll, even though the game's plot has ended, the other games are left behind.
You have no idea how much I hate Patreon and how it corrupts "indie" video-games development because they are no more indie if patrons influence development like a publisher would do it and don't get me started about Patreon's absolutely hypocrite censorship who forbids harmless things such as incest romance but is fine with rape and slavery. ๐
I lost count of how many promising games were wasted because Patreon's administrators single-handedly and arbitrarily decide what is allowed and what is not allowed in developer's works based on their own personal preferences as if developers were making games to please them above else. ๐
But what are you talking about sacred frames and chess being mandatory to continue to next chapter? Are they not optional bonus content? ๐ค
You are being too hard on Issei because while I agree with you that he is insufferable in the anime, I know it is not actually his fault because the authors purposefully ridicule him in order to censor his perversion for the sake of the anime being "for all public", this is one of the reasons why I completely stopped watching animes years ago because I grew sick of authors' hypocrisy. ๐
But here is not the anime, it is an adult visual novel, which means that his perversion will not be censored with grotesque comedy relief anymore so give him a fair chance in the adult version before you automatically damn him, okay? ๐
And after all the characters' development and relationships building in the anime, you are not bothered that the girls who were in love with Issei fuck a random stranger? I hated it because it felt disloyal! If at least there was relationships' building to justify that the girls grow close with this new character, I could accept it if Issei is dead and genuine love grows with the new character, but since there is no story, no character development and no relationships 'building in Demons of Harem because it is nothing but a sandbox with sex scenes spread everywhere with every girl without any justification, I disliked it.
About the sex scenes in Devil's Academy here, I enjoy them but it bothers me that they happen in-between chapters and are not included into the actual story because each chapter starts right where the previous chapter left off, which implies that the in-between content didn't actually happen and that really bothers me, I wish it would actually be included into the story. ๐
Meh, I understand... I went through this reason with Dev, Kamus, although he creates cool games that I had my eye on "Gremory Live and Shinigami Brothel" however through the vote on Pantreon he will always develop Sarada Training, even When the content of this game is complete, new scenes are added, while the other two games are always forgotten at the bottom!
"But what are you talking about sacred frames and chess being mandatory to continue to next chapter? Are they not optional bonus content?" Yes, I finished the 4 chapters of this game yesterday and today and the problem here is that you have to stay Keep an eye on the scenes where some icons and you have to click and collect "Sacred Flames" along with status, it's a boring minigame and to release the next chapter, otherwise you are forced to repeat the entire previous chapter to release the next one. Lucky for me, the guys from the f95zone forum community made the chapter cheats available and just by typing it in you can release everything and be able to just focus on the story.
"You're being too hard on Issei because although I agree with you that he's insufferable in the anime..." I'm sorry if it seemed like that but it's reality, I liked Issei when I watched DXD when the anime was released in mid-2012. However, time passed and passed, my mentality changed and when I rewatched DxD again until the third season, I asked myself how Could I like such a stupid character?
It got even worse when I decided to read the light novels due to the failure of the animation that started in the third season and continued until the fourth season. I didn't like how Issei grew in the work and developed, his development didn't come from his point of him, he was simply a lazy asshole who received help from everyone.
Even at this point, I prefer Vali Lucifer but he was a cold bastard that sometimes I didn't like. Anyway, Issei's development was something I couldn't stand, and it got to the point that I continued reading the Novel just because of the girls who were my Waifu.
"And after all the character development and relationship building in the anime, don't you mind that the girls who were in love with Issei were having sex with a random stranger?" Nah, it was better than seeing Issei who was a big pervert but at the H-time, he weakened and that's why I never considered a harem king like "Basara from shin maou no testament and Arata from Monogatari".
"If there was at least relationship building to justify girls getting close to this new character, could I accept it if Issei was dead and genuine love grew with the new character?" I would even recommend Kamus' "Gremory Live", what a cool little game. In this game, Issei is killed in the last confrontation, and you play with a character that can be one of 3 races, demon, human or angel... take it from me, choose angel, it's funny and tense at the same time , your relationship with Rias. After all, in the last holy battle you almost died the same one that Issei died, and was rescued by Rias... biggest plot twist "if you are an angel", and also Mc has sacred gear that every time he dies it activates the balance break and it's crazy come back to life xD! The only problem with this game is Patreon dictating through polls what Dev should continue developing or not!
"But this isn't the anime, it's an adult visual novel, which means your perversion will no longer be censored with grotesque comedy relief" yes, I was scared of playing this game but I gave it a chance and found it acceptable, due to the fact that I can change the MC's name, and I can also make choices making Issei less Simp!
"About the sex scenes in Devil's Academy here, I like them, but it bothers me that they happen between chapters and are not included in the actual story because each chapter starts right where the previous chapter left off, which implies that the scenes in between the content didn't actually happen." Yes, I was also really bothered by the scenes between the chapters, as if it were a small special that had no impact on the story in general.
Oh, true! I just started a new game and skipped everything just to check if I could advance to next chapter and I couldn't because it indeed told me that I had to unlock every sacred frame and chess, I had no idea they were mandatory because I always did it on my own before trying next chapter, sacred frames are easy, just click on highlighted things during the story, as for unlocking the chess, it is more complicated because you have to take note of numbers or characters to compose a code, it's not that hard either.
I played every chess puzzle in the first two chapters but it quickly grew tedious and I stopped bothering from the third chapter however I still unlocked the board to earn the drop of power.
Then you don't really hate Issei, you are frustrated by the fact that you ever appreciated him because you feel ashamed to have done so, your disgust is actually directed towards yourself.
The same happens to me all the time whenever I try to replay or rewatch something that I used to love, I realize that I don't like it anymore because I evolved and my tastes evolved with myself.
For example, I really enjoyed playing Undertale when it was released and I considered it my favorite game for years... until I replayed it and couldn't stand its childish naivety anymore, everyone is too kind and becomes friends forever too easily, I realized that Undertale is really not as deep as everyone claims it to be, it is actually superficial as if it doesn't dare to be too serious and wants to stay light-hearted, exactly like animes "for all public", I couldn't find myself in this childish game that I used to love anymore so I stopped playing it and got rid of it.
This is only one example but the same thing happened with MANY other things because life is just like a RPG in the sense of as we experience things, we learn and we evolve, our perception of the world evolves and our tastes evolve as well, there are many things that I used to enjoy and that I can't stand anymore because I am no more the same as I used to be.
This is what happened to you with DxD, when you first watched it, you enjoyed it, and then, when you watched it years later, you were no more the same as you were the first time and you couldn't stand it anymore, this is not Issei's fault, this is your evolution, you are just no more compatibles, that's all. ๐
Ah, yes, I so feel you, pal, I can't stand it either when the so-called hero can't do anything by himself and everyone rushes to his help, that's why I can't stand Harry Potter, because this "chosen one" never succeeds anything by himself, he is just spoiled by everyone and ridiculously lucky because J.K.Rowling designed the universe to go Harry Potter's way, for example he didn't defeat Voldemort because of his skills, he was just protected by his mother's sacrifice without him having to lift a finger for it, then he was saved by Dumbledore's phoenix, then he was lucky that his wand contained the other feather from the same phoenix as Voldemort's, once again without him having to lift a finger for it, then he was saved by the Order of Phoenix, then he was secretly protected by Severus Snape, then he was saved by Narcissa Malfoy because she couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts to find her son (which doesn't explain why Harry Potter had to be alive for that), then Voldemort's own death spell returned against himself because his wand acknowledged Harry Potter as its true master, Lord Voldemort was actually killed by his own wand without the "chosen-one" Harry Potter having to lift a finger to defeat him, that is just ridiculous how luck is always on Harry Potter's side, which ruins his credibility as a hero because he never achieves anything by himself, everyone rushes to his help and even the universe spoils him, he is nothing but a spoiled lucky brat, I can't stand him! And that goes for every so-called "hero" who doesn't actually achieve anything by themselves but are just ridiculously lucky or/and spoiled by everyone around them!
Ahem, sorry, I got carried away here, anyway I understand your disgust for "heroes" who don't achieve anything by themselves and are nothing but spoiled lucky brats who are spoiled by everyone around them and you don't feel that they deserve it.
I'm sorry but I have to stop your delusions here, they are not your waifus (Damn, I hate this word, it always sounds like "I am a desperate otaku who fantasizes on anime girls who don't care about me!") unless you identify yourself as Issei because they are Issei's lovers therefore in order to imagine yourself as their lover then you have to identify yourself to THEIR lover who is Issei, they don't love YOU, they love ISSEI, so if you want them to love you, you have to be Issei, that is how it works and that is why I prefer games over animes and mangas (I don't like animes and mangas anymore anyway. ๐), because in games I get to control and really be the protagonist whereas in animes and mangas, I only get to watch him without any influence on him, he doesn't care about what I want, and therefore I am not as close to him as I would be as a playable character. ๐
THIS is exactly why this adult visual novel exists in the first place, because Issei is an obsessive pervert who spends all his time fantasizing about sex but chickens out every time an actual opportunity presents itself all for the sake of remaining "for all public" and not turn into hentai, this is all authors' hypocrisy's fault that they design pervert characters but don't dare to actually making sex happen, characters are victims of their designers' hypocrisy, and japanese designers are incredibly cowards and hypocrite, that's why I was an otaku for a few years when I discovered that animes were not only what we see on TV and that there are many more that I was not aware of but after a few years of intensively watching animes, I eventually grew sick of it, they become all the same when you watch many because japanese authors actually have no imagination, they copy each other and stick to the same patterns again and again, also they are insufferably hypocrite because they don't dare to show what they actually want to show and offer nothing but bland "for all public" stuff, also you could believe that life stops once you graduate because almost all of their stories happen in schools as if nothing ever happens outside of schools, I eventually grew sick of all this non-sense and I stopped being an otaku years ago and I pity otakus now because they don't realize that they are manipulated by hypocrites without imagination.
Oups, I got carried away again, anyway what I wanted you to understand is that Issei chickens out of every actual opportunity to fulfill his fantasies because of the authors' cowardice and hypocrisy who are scared to lose their "for all public" status and lose money because of it but since this visual novel is designed for adults then the author doesn't care about "for all public" status and censorship and therefore they will NOT make Issei chicken out of actual action like a pathetic coward in the anime, here he will ACTUALLY seize opportunities because here is not one of those "for all public" garbage! ๐
I assume that you are an otaku since you use their ridiculous words and therefore I assume that you also watched Kono Subarashii Sekai, the anime where a hikkikomori named Kazuma dies and is sent to an isekai (sigh, isekai too are lack of imagination) along with the goddess Aqua and forms a team with the crimson demon girl obsessed with explosion magic Megumi and the masochist paladin blonde girl Darkness? I hated Kazuma in the anime because he claimed that he is not like all those harem animes' protagonists who chicken out of opportunities and what did he do? He chickened out of opportunities even though he got the nerve to mock other harem animes' protagonists, he is just the same and this hypocrisy really got on my nerves! Then I discovered this: https://pastryirl.itch.io/adventurer-trainer
THIS is exactly what I wanted, an adult version of the "for all public" bullshit where things ACTUALLY happen and Kazuma is not a pathetic hypocrite coward who mocks other harem animes' protagonists but is no better himself. I assume that you can't stand Kazuma just as much as you can't stand Issei for the same pathetic hypocrisy and cowardice, right? Then play Adventurer Trainer even if you play as Kazuma and discover how much a character can be different when he is designed by another designer. Then maybe you will reconsider giving a fair chance to a new version of Issei. ๐
Thank you for your recommendation, I really appreciate that you want to share what you think I might enjoy, however considering what you told me, I don't want to play a game by a developer who does whatever his patrons want, I can't respect such developers who lack will to make what THEY want to make. By the way, did I mention how MUCH I despise Patreon already and am disappointed that so many creators enslave themselves to it? ๐๐
Developers think that since patrons fund them then it is only fair that they make what their benefactors want. But then, how is it any different than working for a publisher? How can you still consider yourself "independent" if you let your patrons dictate your development? That's why I can't stand Patreon, it is actually no different than any publisher and corrupts indie development. ๐ฃ
See? You already noticed that Issei is different in this adult visual novel than he is in the anime and this is only the beginning. ๐
Unfortunately, in chapter 4, everyone calls you Issei and doesn't use your own name, which really broke the immersion for me, I think Naitoh forgot to script the use of the player's name. ๐
I know, right?! I disliked to lose my virginity to a random irrelevant girl who summoned me to fuck her for a contract instead of a meaningful girl such as one of the Occult Research Club and I couldn't believe that Koneko gave me a blowjob for no reason but I was happy when Akeno trained my focus, teased me and jerked me off on her face and breasts and when Rias gave me a titjob to relax me after a contract because I was thinking "YES! We ACTUALLY do things as opposite to that frustrating anime which offers nothing but teasing and blue-balling, I'm happy! ๐", then I started the next chapter and it resumed the story exactly where it left off at the previous chapter and so I was like "Wait, what? I am still when I was at the end of the previous chapter? Then everything I did between the chapters doesn't count? It didn't actually happen? NOOOOOOOOOOO! ๐ญ", I really hate that all of the in-between chapters content is not part of the actual story because then it is irrelevant, it didn't actually happen, which frustrates me! ๐ฃ
Sigh, forget it, I already deleted it after a few minutes of trying it, it is just as bad quality as Demons of Harem from Black Cat, it is a sandbox in which you can do anything in any order because there is no actual organized storyline, it has no purpose, no objectives, no progression, it is boring, I pass. ๐
Meh, what a shame then! ๐ Although it's sandbox and doesn't have a linear story, it's really my type. I'm not a fan of linear VN and I'm not obligated to play as Issei, hahahaha!
But anyway, the bad thing about this game is that you need a "walkthrough" guide to advance in the game story. but even with that, I think it's a little better than Black Cat's Demons of Harem.
I can't stand it when the story is not well organized, when it is chaotic because there is no order, and usually,
non-linear sandboxes don't work because when you are free to do anything in any order but if you don't do them in a specific order then they are not logical, they don't make sense, because you miss something that you should have done before but since you didn't follow the logical order then the story is screwed up, the freedom granted by non-linear sandboxes is an illusion because there is always a certain logical order to follow, your only freedom is to mess up this logical order and screw up the story. ๐
I think both Black Cat's Demons of Harem and Kamos' Angels Humans and Gremory are worthless. ๐
Personal taste, it's a boring thing to deal with, lol! Anyway, sandbox and non-linear are the games that I like the most. Yes, you're right! "History is not well organized, it is chaotic because there is no order!" For me, this is the greatest fun, you can explore the game your way, do shit, see how shit fucked you up, and go back to a previous save point. It's kind of a pleasure for me to play, and when the game has a linear story without branches and divergences, it's practically as if Dev have taken your little hand and guided you through the episodes, boring for me!
With that shit out of the way! I played Devil's Academy DxD again, and I realized something or am I wrong? I must be! Because, until now, we haven't had a lewd scene from issei with the main girls, have we? Because I only saw it with a bunch of random girls and characters. I wonder if there will be one in the next update?!
Wow, wow, wow, hold on, I have to stop you right here because you claimed that non-sandboxes visual novels are linear stories without any branches and divergences, which is wrong because the very point of visual novels is all about making choices which direct the story in different alternative paths according to our choices otherwise these are NOT visual novels, these are KINETIC novels and I avoid kinetic novels specifically because I'm bored with a story which doesn't involve my input, that I am a mere witness without any influence on the events, I pass, I prefer stories which ACTUALLY care about what I want and require my input to go on, which can't proceed without my involvement and you don't need it to be a sandbox to do that. ๐
Actually, Devil's Academy already contains lewd scenes with Koneko, Akeno and Rias however none of them is part of the story, they are fan-service bonus content, which is what frustrates me because I have no interest in scenes which don't actually happen in the story, even the scenes with random girls are not part of the story as they are all part of the in-between chapters and not of the chapters themselves. ๐
I appreciate your passion for interactive storytelling in visual novels. However, there seems to be a small terminology mix-up in your argument that I'd like to clarify. Visual novels, as a genre, encompass both interactive and non-interactive variations, and they can have varying degrees of branching narratives.
You are absolutely correct that a significant portion of visual novels do feature branching storylines where player choices affect the narrative outcomes. These are indeed interactive and allow players to shape the story. These are what we typically refer to as 'interactive visual novels.' In such games, your choices play a crucial role in determining the story's direction, which aligns with your preference for actively influencing the narrative.
However, there are also visual novels known as 'kinetic novels,' which are intentionally designed to have a linear, predetermined storyline without branching or significant player choices. The distinction between interactive and kinetic novels is essential because it caters to different preferences in storytelling. While kinetic novels may not involve player choices, they still fall under the broader category of visual novels.
So, it's not that all visual novels are devoid of choices and divergences, but rather there are different subgenres within visual novels that offer distinct narrative experiences. It's a matter of personal preference whether you prefer interactive or linear storytelling, and both have their merits. Your desire for active involvement and influence in the story is certainly valid, and there are numerous interactive visual novels that provide that experience without the need for a sandbox game. Visual novels, as a diverse genre, have options to cater to a wide range of storytelling preferences.
Point is, Angels Humans and Gremory is more of a sandbox than VN, "of course there's a silly story there" but you have the freedom to explore every location there and farm status to continue the story, which is a feature of the sandbox that, despite being chaotic and not following a fixed line like Kinect, but also have element of VN. I've already progressed halfway through this game, with walktrought, and there are only two routes, romance or corruption of the girls. Like many games of this nature, there isn't much choice beyond that.
And about the random girls and main girls, I see... I thought I had skipped them when I entered the cheat code to release all the chapter contents and so I tried playing again, withouth cheat but miss all. It really sucks, that these lewd scenes are like fanservice not with the game's story, there's no reason to create an erotica vn as a dev can't get out of her original work tracks
Seriously, I felt like Issei was the prostitute doing a booty call while Rias was hir pimp lol. Anyway, I hope that in the next episode Issei can touch the main girls, as shown in the fanservice scenes because if not, she wouldn't be funny.
