Incredible background and character art. Well done!

Great setting and cool gameplay ideas. I found myself wishing for the camera to rotate with the ship, or for some sort of radar mini-map to help point me in the right direction.

Well done!

This is a super charming little puzzle game. I'd love to see it expanded with more mazes and mechanics

Cute and fun! Almost reminds me of the Mario Paint fly swatter mini game. Great job

Great idea, great game! I felt like the numbers were not as helpful as I began revealing submarines, since the field was so small it was unclear which numbers associated to which subs.

I'd love to play this on a larger map, maybe with 5x as many squares and a few more submarines

All art assets except the bg tilesets, font, and start screen graphic were made during the jam by the team. The intro crawl is actually summarized text from the emerald tablet, a foundational text in ancient alchemy. Ideally, the player would know they have the option to click and skip that text crawl. That's my oversight, and a note has been added to the controls in the game description.

Thanks for your compliments to the art and your constructive criticisms! I hope you'll stop by the game page someday in the future, once we've fleshed this project out some more.

Thanks for playing!

The version we submitted at jam deadline was far from what we envisioned as the final game, let alone anything resembling a minimum viable product. The completed vision for Prima Materia would include movement and attack upgrades that could unlock new areas or defeat progress-blocking enemies more easily.  Ultimately, we were aiming for something like a Metroid/Zelda mash-up with bullet-hell elements. We would like to continue building on this iteration of the project even after the jam ends, so follow for updates if you're interested in seeing a more finished game in the future!

Thank you for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Highscore: 28,980. Very well done! Feels great on controller. I'd love to see it in portrait to get more of those arcadey Galaga vibes. I really liked dodging the asteroids.

Edit: What do the floating 'powerups' do? I take it the solid dots recover health, but what about the X's?

Final Devtober Update v0.21

This has been so much fun! I'll have the Postmortem for this iteration of Cat On Board published sometime later this week.
Happy Halloween!   🎃

Great level design! Very relaxing puzzler.

⚠ new update alert  ⚠

v0.2 Update Devlog

We've got menus, COOL FONT, and a looping level. Come check it out!

v0.2 Update Devlog

A Roll in the Park - Cat On Board v0.1 Update

Only two more weekends until Devtober 2021 is over!   I think this prototype will turn out to be a good vertical slice of a fun game concept, but only time will tell which direction this goes in afterward.   I think there is a fun movement system here, but I'm still torn on exactly where to go with the mechanics.

Loved this game! Short and sweet, very cute and a good challenge.

I just played the original Hauntin' and  had a fun time! The remake and its enhancements  look    great, can't wait to check it out :D

Still loving this. It just keeps getting better! I imagine I'm operating a massive asteroid impact prevention system that encircles a planet or space colony 🚀

A Day Late and an Update Short

I had a pretty big project this past weekend, so I didn't get to work on the v0.1 release of Cat On Board as much as I wanted. Suffice to say, the update won't come out until this next weekend. In the meantime, I'll talk a bit about what I am doing with the project and some additions you can look forward to on Sunday 10/17:

  • Completed Skate Park Level
  • Improved Controls
  • Temporary Score Display

We'll have our first real level next week, and I decided the best place to start would be the skate park. This will be a traditional left-to-right platformer where your goal is to get to the end before the timer runs out, all while trying to earn as many points as possible by collecting wings and doing tricks. Eventually, I want  to    implement a Level    Complete screen that assigns a letter rank to your score and how many wings you collected.

There won't be any enemies in the first level, but I  have conceptualized a few adversaries for our titular cat...

Firstly, we have Doggo who comes in two flavors: white and not-white.

Another foe to consider is Snek, so watch your step.

Finally we have Surf Rat, who cruises the sewers on a slice of pizza. They'll probably be a major antagonist.

I  want to sincerely thank everybody who visited the Cat On Board submission page for Devtober so far, and thank you  players for   the amazing feedback. Seeing comments from people who played and enjoyed this little game I've put so many hours into really makes my day, I  don't think the pure joy it brings me    can be properly expressed here.    I'm glad you like it, and it will only get better. See you on Sunday   ❤ ptro

Nice! I hope you did a lot of cool spins and flips!   🐱‍🏍🛹

That's right, I'll be updating the game every weekend for #Devtober 2021! It'll get a little better every week, especially after more awesome feedback from players like you!

Lots of fun, very intense!

Took a minute to understand what I needed to do, but then it was pretty interesting! I like the little player character

Just like the original Flappy Bird, I  can't get past 10 :D
Looking good!

I got hooked on Picross when I tried Mario's Super Picross for the first time not too long ago, and this looks soo fun. I love the museum theme. Good luck with the  colorize-the-puzzle juice, I  think I can see what you're going for and I'm digging it!

Great background set! Really helped to bring my game to life and brightened my day   :)

Looks good, fellow Godot dev and first time Game Jammer! I 'm looking forward to checking it out 🌎

Cat On Board is a slippery platformer in which you do sick tricks on your skateboard, and you're also a cat.   Due to my personal schedule limitations,  I'll be posting a weekly devlog instead of daily. Rest assured, I'm working/thinking about this project every day!

Happy Devtober 2021  -- I can't wait to play your games!

Weekly Update #1 - Spins and Flips!

Weekly Devlog #1

Check out the new update!

Very nice, clean design and addictive gameplay!

This is a lot of fun!  I'll definitely be coming back to check out future updates.

What a great story setup, I'm excited to play it!

Thanks for playing, and thank you even more for the feedback! I'll definitely be toning down some of the gravity and other physics for the v0.03 update. Stay tuned, it'll launch by the end of this weekend!

I made this with Godot Engine using GDScript, but I'd like to convert it to C# eventually. Thanks for playing!

Awesome! Best of luck, and I can't wait to play your game!

This is also my first Game Jam, and I'm learning a lot already just preparing for it to start.    I  can't wait to play the games you'll all be working on!

Helped me to visualize my first prototype game and learn Tilesets in Godot. Thank you, Penusbmic! https://ptro.itch.io/cat-on-board

weirdly addictive!
