My plan was (and still is to some extent) to make a video and document the process of participating in the jam.
But because my game didn't get to where I thought, I'm thinking of a promotional video about other awesome games too.
So if you have an awesome game: please let me know so that I can play it, and if I agree it will be featured in the video :)
If you know of any games that should totally be featured because they are sooo good: list them also! :)
Here is my channel btw: https://www.youtube.com/@brallex
So let the games COME IN! x)
(PS: here is my game if you'd like to try/rate it: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1933543 (9 votes to goo!!))
I agree, it's a lot more fun to promote others' games that you think deserve attention.
Something to do instead of chasing ratings is to chase good games to rate.
It will give you insight into what others did great with the theme and their time in the jam and can therefore serve as a collection of inspiration for your future game jams, as well as contribute to the community.
Try to improve your own developing skills without getting too self-centered.
Game jams are all about community, so in my opinion, the best types of ratings and feedbacks are from those that found you through a sincere post in the community tab, a shoutout, or on their own game page when you rated it.
And in the worst case you won't get enough ratings, but what's the harm in that? I rather get insufficient high-quality ratings with great feedback than ass-kissers that rate my game low without playing it and begging me to play their game in the comments x)
I'm not provoked by someone doing this, just giving some examples and my two cents on this :)
Wow nice entry! It has a uniqueness to it while still something recognizable (the 2.5D aspect reminds me of paper mario, and the genre with waves was the genre I first tried to make a game around).
I loved the art, music, SFX and gameplay, really enjoyable!
And to be able to pull all that off and have it so well polished in 72 hours ... (!!!) Great job :)
(I was sooo close... ^^)
I really liked this one, it was cute, challenging, and relaxing :)
While the music was nice, some SFX would make the game come alive even more.
I also unintentionally compared it with another game I played from this jam: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1931560
It is my top-rated game thus far, and I think it would be a good opportunity to compare the pros and cons of the differences between this game and yours.
One thing as a pro for your game I think is the difficulty, making it easy to play through for a game jam (and because of that don't miss out on anything at the end).
One thing they did better in my opinion was to implement the theme, so maybe a great question to ask is how the theme could have been better implemented in your game.
This is just me thinking out loud and trying to give some pointers for you in you next project, or even if you want to improve this game after the ratings, so take it with a grain of salt :) This is just my opinions, you made a really awesome game! Looked beautiful :)
Since it was unfinished I can't really say that much about it other than that the graphics looked really cool :)
I loved how the planets looked, and I was a little bumped down by the fact it was not finished...
And what is wrong with WASD or the arrow keys for navigating the ship?? x) My guess is that you have another keyboard layout than me, but still confusing to not add that in as well ^^
The concept and idea of this one are by far the best! And I love the visuals :)
Really cool idea, and it was fun to play! Would like to see it getting some polish, with maybe new levels, and complicated scenarios (maybe having the enemies go in special paths to make it harder to avoid your shadow, or maybe the shadows still can kill enemies which would be an asset for the player to use in order to beat the enemies in more difficult levels...)
Well done! :)
Really well made, one of my highest-rated ones for a reason! :)
The game goal, loop and mechanics are really well made and had me hooked. Even when I was aaaalmost there at around day 10, I just missed it by that much. But because I was so hooked I tried again and again, thinking this time my tactic was perfect.
Well, I think I can safely say I didn't end up in the top 10 on the high score list x)
Good job! :)
I will most definitely add some features that I didn't have time to add to my game.
This was the first time I participated in a jam as a married, full-time web developer, so it was hard for me to manage my time and schedule.
What I would add is:
- Musik & SFX
- Point system
- Ending
- Slowmotion when you die (making it obvious that you change to the killer)
- Camera shake
- Particle effects/explosions
- Different types of ships/weapons
- Pick-up items (maybe for changing/upgrading ships/weapons)
I would guess there's a lot more I could add to polish up the game, but these are some of the things I myself did try to add within the time limit or stuff I have gotten some feedback about :)
1. Make New Way (https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1931560)
2. Chrono Horizon (https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1933194)
3. unSentenced (https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1933266)
4. Ages in a day (https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1931993)
5. HydraPlant (https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-9/rate/1928212)
Well done on making your first game-jam game! :)
What I really liked was the idea, art, and music. Really well done in making you game beautiful and sound exciting :)
What I thought could be better is the game loop. While it's fun to fly around in space, I thought the task was too big and repetitive at first.
One way to fix it is maybe to make the ship more easily maneuverable/faster so that it goes quicker, or to simply lower the number of planets to collect from 15 to maybe 3 on the first level. And then add like 3 levels at least for a game-jam entry. And depending on the time you could've maybe even added some variety in difficulty/tasks/obstacles.
Just wanted to give you some things I found could improve the game and what you can take with you to your next project :)
Well done!
