Thanks! Hope not too late for Spooky Season :D

Thank you so much!

Thank you!

First track was supposed to be a loop, which is bit difficult to show on soundcloud, good point here - I should have described it clearly that way

Thanks! Yes, menu was supposed to be looped, glad that it worked out

Thank you! Nice to hear that simplicity can be a good thing :D

Thank you!

Good job! For a first time in rock/metal that is not that far off. It gives me vibes of early '00s games a bit, which is weirdly nostalgic. I feel like I played a game with similar soundtrack :D

A bit of feedback - with drums for rock/metal the baseline would be kick on 1 & 3 and snare on 2 & 4. Obviously you can play around with kicks, snares are bit more difficult to pull off differently. Fill spaces with hihats (not on same dynamic level, most commonly used would be strong-weak) as 8ths and you have a great base to build up from.

With that going from closed to open hihats will be an easy verse/chorus distinction.

Seeing that you admitted to drums being your weak point I figured you would find this helpful, hope you do!

Thank you!

Thanks!

No plugins, that's FamiStudio, free DAW to make music for NES (you can even upload it to actual NES game). It has original limitations and sounds the part. It's a bit wonky to use, but I never used it before the jam and was able to finish the song, so there's no steep learning curve.

There's also FamiTracker, but I didn't want to learn trackers for a new jam this time :D

Thanks!

I mean, "make a track for a fictional remake/demake", so I will defend myself saying that this is a fictional GG demake into Gameboy/NES game - so this kind of music fits the bill :D

Thank you!

The amount of effort put into this is incredible. Also very creative take - choose your adventure style with repeated patterns is something I would have never thought of myself.

Good job!

Thank you!

Haha yeah, fatigue is real, I actually felt relief when I stopped playing the loop over and over again. I guess this could work very well for more stressful part of a game and get stress levels up just by getting first notes, but I may have overdone it :D

Thank you!

Very pleasant ambient, gives a vibe of a character development part of a game, where story and dialogue takes main place. Especially "Pivot" is something I'd expect to hear in an indie game. Good job and congratulations on your first jam!

Thank you!

Thanks!

It's not that far from organ. I used granulator preset + meld preset (both ableton live devices) + processing with some effects.

Amazing track, nothing to add really

Thank you!

Thank you!

Retro sounding drum samples are actually retro - they come from Roland R-50e, classic drum machine used in industrial music :D

Oh wow, that's a very nice listen! Very difficult to find reversed parts (in a good way), you make it not so obvious. That's a great entry.

(love the low drone, makes amazing atmosphere)

The reversed and "glitched" out parts sounds very fitting for the description. Repeating others - really nice to not just reverse half of a track!

Would see it in higher intensity horror level, like when creatures appear.

Thank you! Glad you liked it!

What a wonderful listen!

Hard to tell anything more than that, but I must say that bass sound and line is pure gold here. I love it.

Great work!

Great work! I really like the consistent vibe, but still each track has its own identity.

Really impressive what you've set and actually managed to do!

I think you got the "weird" soundtrack vibe perfectly, I would imagine it in some dream related movie,  or in more exploratory game.

Thank you and thanks for the feedback!

I may save drums (and maybe bass) for later song, glad you liked it!

My dynamics when working with DAW are definitely weak, that's a great catch and a reminder for me to pay more attention to it.

Definitely has a vibe of a cozy visual novel, got this spot on. I really enjoyed it!

Very professional sounding and a great listen! I really enjoyed it

Thank you!

Wow, that sounds like from an actual (S)NES game!

I double Jofes' sentiment - I think that 8bit-ish cymbal would work better (even if it was just a filtered noise).

But overall great work!

(1 edit)

I really like how second part almost doesn't sound like it's reversed. Looks like a lot of effort was put into making it sound good both ways.

For a bit of constructive criticism - I feel like mix could use a bit of touch up. Seems like drums (especially ride) are bit too quiet compared to other things; but maybe that was required to make it so smooth both ways
