The Dance of the Once Living
Single player first person horror/altered reality exploration game set in the 1910s. The player heads out on a day trip to see stone henge and is transported to an alternate plain of consciousness where reality begins to warp and ancestors of the lands start to dance around the player.
To create this track I used Logic Pro X and a mix of VSTs from Spitfire Labs and Aturia Analog for melodic and harmonic content and XLN Audio Life to create beats from metallic factory sounds I collected myself when working for a brewery.
This track was heavily inspired by the soundtrack for the tv series 1899 as well as the the vibe from the documentary Ancient Apocalypse.
Difficulty
Make something that has elements that can be listened to both backwards and forwards.

Ahhh this is very cool, definitely fits a horror game. The reversed sound effects work really well for the genre, and the tension building up through the song was satisfying. Awesome work!
nice jobb playing with the stutering efect with the percussion . Really would fit in an Ena type animation!
This is so siniter and dark, I legitimately love it. Sounds like the music of Christopher Young.
What a huge compliment! thank you so much!!!
The reversed percussions are so disquieting... I love it! Perfectly matches your game concept.
appreciate the kind words!
Can totally imagine this in a horror game! Really impressive how the song manages to flow so well while constantly reversing back and forth rather than just once in the middle
Some happy accidents occured and I rolled with them so thank you
imaganing the antient people randomly dancing around me to this beat alone scared the shit out me. Nice horror psych vibes
thank you!
Very creative and eery track, very much appreciated having reversed sound in both halves of the track to make the tension constant, great track !
Also has a great rhythm to it, I wouldn't have expected it initially with the ambient pad focus but it is very much welcomed !
very kind words thank you!
Very spooky, I liked it!
I'm glad!
very creepy and spooky and most importantly it’s a bop!
Thank you so much!
very spooky and tense! very interesting track, I liked it! Great job!
thank you, glad you enjoyed!
The vibe was definitely unsettling and great for a horror setting. It was really helpful having the context you gave for when it would be played and it feels like it would fit that vibe really well. i like how some of the elements sounded like swarming voices as well. really varied and interesting track!
Thank you! I had so much fun creating the voices by using very subtle pitch bend to give it that spooky/other worldly vibe.
The reversed and "glitched" out parts sounds very fitting for the description. Repeating others - really nice to not just reverse half of a track!
Would see it in higher intensity horror level, like when creatures appear.
ah I’m glad that it came across like that! In my head the moment this track comes is after a lot of suspense as the player starts to piece together that everything is not as it seems. When the bass kicks in, things from this other realm start to appear and chase the player.
I appreciate that you went for challenge C and didn't just reverse the track in the middle and calling it a day.
Having the reversed parts play right after their respective phrases made this entry stand out a lot more!
I also really like the instrument you used that sounded like a bunch of voices buzzing I have no clue how to describe it but it was cool!
Great entry!
thank you! There were definitely times I wanted to pull my own hair out but got there in the end ☺️
Niiice. Super unsettling, I like how you layered the sounds with reversed versions of them, really groovy.
Thank you!
Really nice! Fits the game description so well!
Glad you liked it ☺️
You really nailed the C challenge here, this track works well in both halves. I like how you had reverse elements even in the forwards half. Love the horror/industrial vibe. Nice work!
thank you! I had a lot of fun creating the rhythms
You've definitely managed to catch the theme you've described. The palindomic nature fitted here very well and gave it a surreal and frightening quality. Also, having mastered the highes difficulty makes it even better.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
