Thanks for playing, we're glad you liked it.
Yeah, we noticed that issue with the background glitching too. I didn't code it myself but from my knowledge, it's likely an issue with the shaders we used in the background that help them scale dynamically but also allow the worms and ants to dig tunnels. When I talked to the artist that coded it they told me it should be an easy fix as they encountered it before. The bug just didn't pop up for us till we expanded the level size and by then it was too late to fix.
Is one of the fixes that will be implemented asap!! Thanks for the feedback :)
Thanks for playing and the feedback!!
I totally agree with you about the UI and feedback to the player. Not having an indicator of when you were doing damage to the ant was a big oversight on my part, I should've coded one in but I just didn't get round to it before the jam submission period ended.
Thanks for the feedback anyway, it's really useful seeing the issues with the game as it gives us things to focus on since we are definitely planning to do an update when we have time to :)
Thanks for playing, I watched your video playthrough and I see the confusion. Most of it comes down to we didn't add enough feedback to the player when things were happening. Whatever angle you come at the enemies from you do a bit of damage to them if your head goes into them..
We had planned to add animations, vfx and sfx to indicate you were damaging the enemy but we didn't manage to get those finished in time before the jam submission period ended. I should've coded a basic health bar to the ants as a basic indicator that you were hurting them even without having the vfx and sfx ready, that was an oversight on my part (the main coder on the team).
Thanks for all the feedback, it was really valuable to see how you played it on the video too as it gives quite a good insight into things we should improve upon in the update we're planning in the weeks following the jam voting period ending.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback!!
I get what you're saying. I think the biggest issue with the game is that we didn't add enough feedback to the player about what was going on. For instance ants can hurt you which is why you lose tale pieces. But you can also hurt them and when they die they drop food. However we had no indicator of the ants attacking or when you were doing damage to them. No sound or visual. And I really think that made the game suffered
We're glad you enjoyed the movement and graphics, that's the stuff we focussed the most on polishing towards the end!!
It was a fun game, I really enjoyed the nature of not being able to go super deep straight away as it gave some nice progression goals to the game.
One thing I would have liked to be able to do is go back to the surface to recharge my oxygen as it kept going down constantly even when I was as high as I could go.
Amazing job with the game though!!
Thanks for playing and apologies for the confusion!!
The ants were the enemies. The player only is losing body parts when the ants walk into them as they have more hp than the ants. We had meant to add specialised sound effects and visuals to show when the ants or the worm were attacking but we did not manage to get these ready in time sadly.
The ants change themselves to food as we wanted to make an "XP drop" for when the players killed something which it does. We also meant to make additional body part sprites to set them apart from the normal food and to show that it was the ants being killed that dropped them, but once again we did not get to that due to time constraints. Apologies again for the confusion I hope that explanation helped.
I loved the audio and graphics, it's got a really nice vibe to it. One thing that did irk me a bit though was the controls feel a bit unintuitive.
Personally I feel like your game would shine alot more if you could use WASD or the arrow keys and not press the onscreen arrows as they move with the camera which causes the movement to stop as the camera moves the buttons away from your mouse. Plus with the button to move down being above the move up button I kept moving down when I meant to move up and vice versa.
The game seems really nice it was just hard for me to move past that. Great job anyway with it all!! I don't want my criticisms to outshine the fact I think you did a good job.
Amazingly fun game, I really enjoyed the rocket mechanics and also the wind and engine cut zones really made me think about how I was flying the ship alot more. Then the final escape right at the end was tough but that made it all the better!!
One thing that could be a nice add is a timer so people could speedrun it. This game is a perfect example balance between being careful but slow to finish or being fast but possibly crashing.
Great job!!
Fun little game, I quite enjoyed messing around with the different abilities. I especially had fun with the shield ability I think it was. Using it to jump around and parkour in the air.
One critique I do have is that when players first play the game they might want to mess around with the abilities but from what I saw, what I assume is the magic bar doesn't regenerate meaning players can't then complete the quests you implemented.
Great job with the game though. The mechanics were fun and the quests seemed to be quite well implemented. It just needs a bit of tweaking.
