hey MadShmupper! I don't mind it at all! go for it!

that's awesome! I hope it gets tons of downloads!

it worked now! I had to try with a different browser, but I finally got in

it says it has expired

Hey! I've seen this discord invite on your website, unfortunately it's invalid. I think it's necessary to generate a new one

Hey Madshmupper, sorry for the late reply! I had just released another game when you originally messaged me so I think the notifications got mixed up.
I'm eager to learn more about PortMaster. Let me know when I can get that discord server invite and learn more about this port in particular!

You, sir, have just made my day! That's awesome! Let me know if you get the chance to record any footage!

Boa!! Parabéns pelo lançamento! O material tá muito bonito, vou tentar jogar o quanto antes

Uhuuuuul!!

Thanks, Chase! this is a tabletop game, but it's still awesome to imagine a soundtrack for it!

amazing that the system is so simple and yet there's so much that can be done with it! the manual and materials are super easy to use and navigate as well!

wooo thank you!

¡Gracias por intentarlo! Después de jugar, cuéntame tu opinión

valeu!!

hey! super happy you liked the game!
unfortunately, it was programmed in an engine that can't export it into a Gameboy ROM.
I would have to build the game from scratch to achieve this. It's not impossible though! I might try to collaborate with someone more experienced with the available Gameboy engines to achieve that one day.

Thank you!
Yes, GBStudio is making it a lot easier for developers to port their games as actualy gameboy roms. I'm still studying how the engine works, I'll probably start the actual development next year!

I appreciate the enthusiasm and kind words. Just remember this is a jam game!
I do intend to expand on the idea, but I'm still focusing on a small scope so I can develop it fast enough.

Again, thanks!

Thank you! I'm planning to bring it to a different engine and expand it and add more levels!

Unfortunately I don't know when I'll manage to start it, maybe next month!

I see! I don't do well designing puzzles either, so I know what you mean haha

I think that if you add some quests/milestones to the endless runs you can increase the amount of satisfaction the player gets from each run.

So I'm trying to suggest something where every time the player finishes the infinite mode they can at least look at other achievements to feel like they're making progress, instead of the scenario where they're just trying to beat their own  highscore

it was really fun! especially regarding having boss enemies that you have to think out of the box for a moment on how to defeat them. I only fought the fire guys so I don't know if you have other versions of bosses, but I'll definitely try to give them features to tap on the player's available cards. maybe some enemies that are healed by poison and so on.

overall I really liked it but I don't know if you're planning on infinite mode as the only means to play. I kinda liked the level structure on the tutorial. I was enjoying the puzzle approach way more than the "infinite run" one (although it was fun to see that much variety in a single play too).

This felt like a real gameboy game! The opening looked very true to the gameboy splashscreens and all that. it reminded me of the boxing game that came with my gameboy originally! the sound is perfect. the music is super well made and sounds like legitimate gameboy soundtrack.

There was a lot going on at the beginning but I had fun figuring it all out. But I had to try combat a few times until I realized how to properly attack. Other than that it was really fun!

hey! thank you very much!

also, most people here pointed out those flaws, but I want to thank you for making such a pertinent suggestion. using the tiles to communicate about the challenges in the level is definitely something I'll keep in mind when I work on this project again.

cheers!

Thanks! I was so on the fence if I added that last boss fight. now I'm so glad I did! :D

This game was harder than I expected! I'm glad you gave 10 lives at the beginning hahaha

The difficulty scales at a good pace and the graphics are cute. Definitely feels like a gameboy game. The only thing that I missed was a mechanic that would work like a combo for when you pop more than one bubble with a single shot.

Other than that, it was pretty great!

this game was a real surprise. I thought it was going to be simple blackjack and stuff like that but the extra moves and characters really add a charm, strategy and variety to the game. the graphics are really well done too. Good job!

I feel stupid I didn't give your entry a try earlier! I was kinda saving a moment to play it because it looked kinda hard based on the screenshots and all. but it was somehow very intuitive and I played through a lot of levels in one sit.

I know you took your time to polish a lot of features, but the only thing I missed was a bit more explanation regarding power ups and how they help with a few mechanics. But other than that, the gameboy feeling is undeniable. The audio sounds 100% like a gameboy game and so does the animations and tiles. Great game!

Hey! I'm really happy with your feedback (: thanks for the support!

I love plague doctors too! I've been wanting to make a game with them even before I played Shovel Knight but I didn't know which mechanics would fit better with the character. Now I feel like I found a good match and want to expand some more on it.

Cheers!

Really cute game! I loved playing catch with the officer hahaha your tiles are super well done too. I think this is one of my favorite tile art in this jam. A couple of times I felt betrayed by the collision system, getting stuck on corners. but not too many that it ruined the experience. overall a really fun game!

Thank you!

Yes. expanding the game is definitely something I have in mind. There were a few ideas I scratched for the jam and I would love to try to implement them now.

Cheers!

Thanks for your support!!

I was expecting something that would actually play a bit like gauntlet when I saw that topdown camera, but the gameplay surprised me! I don't think I ever saw a gameboy game with these mechanics, so it was really awesome to see something new in the jam like this!

The only thing I wish you had added was some kind of "perfect" or "critical hit" so the player feels rewarded when they hit the mark perfectly, but it's still fun to play regardless of that!

hey! thanks!

I have to admit, I was aiming for the speedrun feel hehehe that timer is there for a reason!!

anyway, thanks again! I'll definitely check out yours. cheers!

yeah! later game boy title is what I was aiming for! I remember seeing those later GB titles with big sprites, like alone in the dark and being super impressed! that's the aesthetic I was going for (:

Thanks for your kind words!!

Thanks for playing and for the review!

I am VERY diligent on reproducing the constraints of gameboy, at least to what it was capable in it's later years, before it was discontinued. Luckly I paired up with a sound designer who felt the same way.

Regarding the hit detection, I was planning on making a html version and thought the bigger colliders would help in case of lower frame rates, but that build never happened. I think I should revise the windows version to improve the box colliders haha

Again, thanks!

Hey! Thanks for playing it (:

It was designed short for the gamejam I used it as an entry, but people seem to be expecting more regardless. I'm considering on expanding and upgrading the project in the next few months! Not only a few more levels, but some more variety in the gameplay as well.

Cheers!

really neat! the player model is pretty good and it's easy to control it. I did it in little over 1 minute, I think haha I just wish the track was a bit more subdivided so when the camera follows the model it doesn't judder so much. aside this little comfort issue, I really liked it! good job!

hey! I really liked the concept! The characters and backgrounds are well designed too! I wish the music was a slightly longer loop so it wouldn't repeat as often as it did, but the sfx were great! it really sounded like a gameboy game.

I don't know if it's a bug or something that I missed, but once I died the attack button wouldn't do anything.

Graphics and audio are amazing! the camera movement is super good and the maps are easy to naviagate. The mechanics are fun and it has a really good progression, considering the length of the game!
I found a little typo at the shop, it says "increase critial" instead of critical haha

I'm really impressed with how polished it is for a jam game! congrats!
