Last Train to Bremen is one of the best oneshots I've played. Great character dynamics, a clear tone, and compelling theming, all built around a nail-biting core game mechanic. When I first read the rules I wasn't sure how the liar's dice would integrate with the storytelling, but it jives really well, generating unexpected character moments in semi-random ways and blending strategic motivations (winning the round) with narrative ones (getting involved with the story). We ended up with a band held together only by spite, where every member for different reasons had given up on the prospect of making genuinely good music. Our Cat very nearly made it out ... but in the end the Devil got his due!

I'll be raving about this one for a long time!

I really like this! The worldbuilding is compelling - the little glimpse of each city made me feel like there was a lot more I wasn't seeing, like each place was real and lively. And the idea of a queer bartering archive is so compelling.

This game hits so hard! The design is concise and the concept comes through really clearly. You did a great job with the rolltables, especially for "The Scream" - so many good words and possibilities! Looking forward to playing this when I have safe access to fire!!

This is really neat! I love the thought you put into the theming and how that gets expressed in play and through the playbooks. I was honestly a little nervous when I saw this was a game about goblins because of their thorny history in pop culture, but you handle and reclaim goblinness in a really lovely way.

You should do your concepting during the jam, for two reasons:

1. We want participants to take inspiration from our opening symposium, and pre-making a concept might lock you into a less-relevant idea;

2. Our top priority is for this jam to be sustainable for everyone from a workload perspective, and we worry that allowing people to start early would create pressure on others to do the same.

Hope that makes sense!

Hi everyone!

We are just two weeks out from QGJam! We hope you’re as excited as we are 😌🌈 ✨ If you haven't joined our Discord server yet, please do so ASAP!

I wanted to take a moment to clarify some common questions we’ve gotten as folks join the jam.

First, though, a reminder: mark your calendars for October 14th, when we’ll be hosting our kickoff symposium! We’re inviting some badass speakers to talk about queer games and queer design, and their discussions will serve as the theme for the jam. The symposium will be live all afternoon (EST) on the 14th, and it will be recorded.

What even is QGCon?
We’re actually one of the older still-running organizations for queer games out there! We’ve been running events (QGCons) since 2013, where we have showcased both scholarship and games interested in what it means to play queerly. Past speakers have included Avery Alder, Anna Anthropy, Robert Yang, Zoe Quinn, and innumerable other rad folks. We proudly offered travel grants, PWYC ticketing, and homestay programs to our speakers, making QGCon one of the most accessible conferences in academia.

Our 2020 conference was canceled due to the pandemic. We’ve spent the past three years incorporating as a non-profit and talking about how we can run events that are accessible and safe for our community. QGJam is our first post-COVID foray back into events organization.

if you want to learn more about QGCon as an organization you can look through our past conferences at our website https://qgcon.com/ ! we have recorded talks going back a few years.

I’m looking for a team! How do I find one?
We are dedicating the first day of the jam to helping folks find a team, so don’t worry about finding one just yet! Until then, we encourage you to think about what you want out of a team. Do you want a portfolio piece, or would you rather experiment with a weird idea even if you don’t finish anything at all? Are you hoping to make friends, try out a new engine/skill/role, or is this your first game jam entirely? You’ll have a much better time jamming if you work with like-minded people, and we’ll be asking these questions of you again when you start to look for teams on October 14th - so make sure to give it some thought!

I want to make a non-digital game. Is that OK?
Absolutely! In fact, quite a few of our invited speakers are tabletop designers themselves …

Invited speakers? 👀 Who are you inviting?

It’s a secret 🤫 keep an eye out on the Discord in the coming days, we’ll be announcing them very soon! ✨

Hello! Not at all - the entire jam is online in fact! The opening symposium will be online-only and livestreamed.

Welcome! Your art is gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing it!!

Don't worry about finding a team in advance - we're dedicating the first day of the jam to helping people find like-minded groups. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone!

Also, if you haven't already, feel free to join our Discord server, where we'll soon be adding channels specifically for jammers!

This is such a cool idea - thanks for playing and I'm glad folks enjoyed it!

The game consists of two rounds. Each round consists of every player taking one turn. At the end of the first round, everyone draws a shift card.

The rules also describe "rounds" as "years," so yeah, you could also say you draw a shift card at the end of the first year.

I hope that makes sense!

Thanks so much for playing, glad you're enjoying it so far!

Thank you!

The shift cards come into play after the first round (so halfway through the game).

I'm so curious how this goes for you! Please feel free to update in this comment thread when you're further along :)

Thank you so much for playing! <3

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I added a few community copies to start. Hope you enjoy the game!

Yay! I'm glad you discovered it and I hope you enjoyed it!

I tried installing this on Mac, but it gives me the following error: "'Ruins of Mitriom' is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

Hope you can fix this bug, I've been following your gifs on Twitter and would love to give it a try!

oh wow, thank you so much for this comment! I'm really glad you hear you enjoyed my game and also the tea. :)

done, thanks for the note!
