Haha I've got plenty of faces to work with. Thanks for playing!

I'll put a few tips and tricks on the game page for anyone else that gets stuck on those tasks.

Thanks for playing!

You're welcome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!

Ah, I didn't realize the walkthrough was a separate download. My bad!

Since the game is finished, I won't complain about the dialogue being long. It didn't really frustrate me that much tbh since it wasn't repetitive.

The visual elements and character designs are bubbly and nice!

The narrative content is incredibly disturbing (especially the bad ending).

Well done!

Got stuck in the pond room after placing the mirror shard. Interacted with all the things. I have a feeling I need to stand still somewhere?

Cool, got it!

I got the shape correct, but didn't notice the colored tile. Will try again!

The visuals and narrative are professional quality, and the story fits the theme to a tee!

I would recommend not having 100% of the dialogue interactions needed to make progress. Since the text can't be skipped, it would make sense to have a few different dialogues depending on how eager you are to order right away vs being the extrovert and talking with everyone. It could even play into more endings if this game gets expanded!

The last part of the game took me a while to figure out where to go after picking up the knife. I knew the front door was locked so I figured it wouldn't make sense to go back there, but that's where you have to go. Not a big deal though, just had to load the game a few more times.

All in all, marvelous experience!

"A cute story about catgirls"

Very cute. Even the bloody stuff was cute... until it wasn't.

Psychological damage = inflicted!

I also got stuck at the tiles (at the last step I think).

I do think you have charming character designs and environments! I would like to hear more music to help set the atmosphere during some of the beginning scenes.

Perhaps adding something to display a list of tasks would help you do things without waiting for hints? Like in untitled goose game, for example.

Thanks for the feedback!

I should make it more obvious that the quests can be done in any order at any time (they're technically more like achievements). The question mark is just meant to be a hint or suggestion on what to do, it's not required to be there before you can complete a task. That's why there's such a long delay between hints :/

Also the cat is a picky eater, perhaps I will add some more things it likes to eat >^o.O^<

edit: thanks for the feedback! I think having alternative ways of displaying tasks is a great idea.

I'd like to applaud your efforts on this project. For one, it's a massive step up from your last game in terms of scope, and I absolutely love the creative vision you expressed from changing the perspective from 2d to isometric 3d while playing out the story, which is also well thought out.  Also, those animated monsters are TERRIFYING! The glitchy movement and sounds effects actually made me feel creeped out to the point I forgot I even had a macguffin! I really adore the sound effects you record too, especially the "wa"s!

The fact you are disappointed means you believe this game has a lot of potential, and I believe that too.  I've put in more than 5 years on a project I believe has potential. Keep up the great work, and take your time!

Right click and make sure your guy actually touches the star.

Speaking of touching stars, that was literally the game I made before this one! https://kittyking101.itch.io/touch-the-stars

LOL, I guess that would make it easier to finish :P

You can right click to touch things!

There's a few more interactions too, so take your time! Also, you technically don't have to do all the quests to finish (only the last one)

Fit the theme absolutely perfectly! I did not expect this game to go that dark :D

Terrific and terrifying! Hope to see the next chapter developed further!

I would recommend some light/happy music at the title screen. I thought there was no sound until I got into the gameplay.

Very surprised by the depth of exploration and gameplay elements, especially the keyhole and sanity level.

I popped out of the closet and got a game over, couldn't go anywhere from there unfortunately. Hoping to see a checkpoint system to fallback on!

I liked the gameplay, and the ending was ironically sweet! (from the perspective of the cat)

Thanks for hosting this gamejam! I loved the theme so much!!

It was a fun challenge, I hope everyone found the same joy that I did working on it.

I tried to make a heart shape out of cats, but... they're cats...

Had lots of fun playing these games today, good luck everyone!

UBERCAT REIGNS SUPREME!

Marvelous game! This one is a top 10 contender in my book.

This game was destined to grow: it's in the theme! ;)

I hope it can be more than a "numbers go up" game in concept. Maybe the stars could tell a story? Maybe they could tell secrets about other games I make. Maybe you as a player could send star patterns to other players!

I'm glad you were satisfied! I think it helps that you can predict where the stars will show up and that it keeps building up with levels. That's all it takes to make a game loop that will keep you hooked!

Looks like some of the UI elements are smaller in your browser, but otherwise looks playable! I'm guessing your browser size is above 100%? Just tested this myself and found they don't scale to your browser size.  This would be a quick fix; thanks for helping me find a bug!

Glad you enjoyed the star effects! I put each star there by hand, so if you reach higher levels you may see some pretty cool patterns. Just see what happens after level 100 ;)

What a charming little game! I don't usually play visual novels, but I loved the dialogue, the music and the character designs. I think this fits the theme of growth perfectly, and it's full of positive energy for those who are going through a vulnerable transition in their lives.

Well done team!

Thanks! I was planning to add animations in a unique way: recording myself in VR. If I find music to vibe too, I will add both!

I like how you used the brick texture on the webpage to blend in with the game. Nice job!

Rootin' tootin' shootin!

It starts out pretty fast. Sometimes I end up hugging a corner and hoping a ghost doesn't end me. I think the enemy spawn rate may be bugged when replaying it because after a few attempts the game started with like 30 enemies. It eventually crashed for some reason :/

Well done! The pixel art and music are great!

I found this game a little too busy at the start. It felt like 80% of my actions were attacking things and picking up random drops. Having the recipes accessible during gameplay would help with knowing what to do.

Well done! I like how this concept started in Minecraft :P

I enjoyed playing this! The biggest challenge was figuring out the jump button, so reading that sign was very helpful ;)

Having abilities tied to different sizes was cool, and I liked the edge climbing mechanic. The way you can grow/shrink in all valid situations is good game design.

The music going slightly off-key is a nice touch!

Très bien!

Hmm, I like how it plays out then!

...except when the enemy starts using the ones that attack downwards, then I get screwed :P

Sound will need some testing, but I'll add some in the next update!

edit: Sound is here!

(also, nice)
