Thank you for playing! We have quite a few ideas we plan on implementing after the Jam. We just ran out of time. We will also be replacing the free music we used with our own as well as create backgrounds. This is our first game, so we could not make everything from scratch in time for the Jam or reach all our goals, but we will in the future!

We have a long way to go and will be finishing those tutorials once things settle down a bit. In the meantime we are enjoying everyone's games :)

Glad you liked it! There are actually multiple patterns of movement put in the game for the enemy. We do plan on polishing things up and ad more stages, but that will have to wait until after the game Jam

Thank you! My hubby could not stop playing your game tonight! He loved the artstyle and talked about it at dinner :)

We are so glad you liked it! Feel free to offer any feedback. We want to add more to it after the Jam and have some ideas.

Yes, we are a family team :) Hubby, wife (me), and our two adult sons. Was really kewl working together and tossing ideas at one another. We actually have been working on another game idea (Nothing implemented, just some ideas etc), but started watching the Godot tutorials from GameDev TV and saw this Jam and thought "Why not use this to push ourselves into getting a game out?" It has been challenging, though. Zimmerman had his appendix removed, so we never got the lessons done, so we spent most the Jam (especially my hubby) just trying to figure out how to accomplish our vision for what a "Last Stand" would look like. It's good practice and getting something out there just feels pretty good! It's also awesome to see the other games people made, too :)

I really do like hitting the space bar to "Reject Fate". Just something about that is quite satisfying.

For me, the controls are awkward, but I know I can chalk that down to being used to mouse and keyboard, not just keyboard. Still, they are simple enough I could get used to it. If you expand on this game, I reocmmend slowly adding more keyboard actions over time for more options (If you ever plan to expand on the game and do that) to help newbs like me better grasp what to do. I just do not have the muscle memory haha

(Of course, you do not have to do that for me, but perhaps others casual gamers feel the same or could tweak my thoughts on this more.

story is 5 stars for sure!

It made me scream just a wee bit when I turned around and there was a ZOMBIE in my face! True Story. me and zombies never did mix well, yet I still play games like "7 Days to die" and this game.

Really a nice story and I can see the game being fleshed out. The environment is a bit bland and even though I saw the notice about the music, there was no option to adjust the music in the menu for me.

Either way, this game made me smile :)

I was drawn in by the word "Chicken" because I have... chickens. Then, I realized it was a game of chicken!

I really like that it was unexpected in the way it presented the Jam theme of "Last Stand"

I did have trouble getting my little guy to move so that I would not get squished, but I still find the idea interesting and could see myself playing a polished version of this. Keep me updated!

So many great games! I see a lot of others are like my family and I and this is their first game. Kudos for putting in the work and just getting it done!

Here is our game Global Patriots

I will check out other games as I have time.

That information really helps!

I was attempting to kite them around and get in hits, but I am not very good at these things :P Still, I had fun!

Thank you! We still have so much more we wanted to add, but it will have to wait until after the Jam.

Thanks!

Cute, fun little game! I was not expecting the bombs at first lol! I also liked the addition of buffs you could pick up.

I played it a few times and when I went to exit, the exit button did not work. I had to use the back button on my browser. Was a bit weird. Not sure if it was the game or something else, but check it out just in case since I did not have that with other games.

Glad you liked it! Thank you for the feedback. I will make sure the rest of the team knows of your feedback. I find it valuable.

Really do like this game :) Thanks for responding!

My hubby is the same haha. Me, I like to draw it out a bit and them BOOM. Make 'em sweat haha. :)

What a fun game! I love the old school feel, the encouraging voice over, and I really love the ship you are in!

I also love your cover picture for the game. This is one of those times I wish we could give a 4.5 or something for overall. You deserve it.

I did find a bug in it. It gets stuck if the enemies fly behind you. They do not return and the game does not seem to be able to move on to a new wave unless you kill them all?

You should check out ours. We have a common theme, though you are out in space and you have a great voice over. They say "Great minds think alike" :)

Thanks for sharing this game. You did an amazing job.

You had me at chicken.

Yes... I have chickens and I adore this game :)

Let me know when that is fixed and I will play again!

Oh no! It was actually me (Kri) who had Italocus slow down the escalation because I felt it was too fast, so I completely understand. I will keep an eye out for others' comments about that to see if it needs to be reduced even more after the Jam. Thanks so much for the input!

Thank you! We could not get everything we want in and we plan on continuing to add features after the Jam to achieve the game we wanted.

It was a great learning experience.

I completely agree! Ten days fly by and life does not stop. Something always comes up and it seems too much to juggle. But, I feel it was so worth it because not only did we Make A game!!!! We got to see others do the same and experience some pretty kewl ideas and implementation. You did great :)

We need to tweak some things, that is true! Time was a factor, which was probably something everyone dealt with for the Jam.

Still, I am really proud of what we accomplished and when I look at other game submissions, like yours, I am amazed at all the creative ideas out there and those that just got it done!

Thank you! We are full of old-school gamers here. Finding music we loved was a bit of a challenge. We do plan on creating our own one of these days, but just not enough time for our first attempt. So, figured we'd wait on that. We do plan on adding more to the game after the Jam :)

Thank you! Zimmerman really does have a knack for pixel art, doesn't he?

Thanks so much for explaining more of the story and how it relates to "Last Stand". Really helped me see the overall picture better.

We, too, are new to this and using Godot! Keep working on it. It's a very cute idea and I would love to see it completed :)

This is overall, one of my favorite games in this Jam. It fit the theme very well and the story given was fleshed out enough that I knew why I was doing what I was doing. Save the dinosaurs!

I don't know why, but I loved the "bouncing ball" sound of the meteoroids!

I also enjoyed having choices pop up at intervals.

This game is better than "4 stars" but less than "5 stars" due to a few game mechanics. However, I felt it was at least a 4.5, so I rounded it up to a 5.

Bullets, as another commenter mentioned, did not shoot in the right direction, though after a bit you can get the hang of it.

I like the idea of escalation. That starting enemies could be one-shotted and then bigger and bigger enemies come. Either faster or takes more shots to destroy. Of course, this was a ten day game jam and I do not expect people to get everything into a game they think of, so for what you got here in that amount of time really just hits the spot.

I think your fog of war is pretty awesome :)

Amazing job!

I feel like this game could really shine with a few tweaks. I do love the theme and aesthetics. I enjoyed the music. Overall I enjoyed playing it.

I do have some questions/thoughts: The weapon only goes in one direction no matter which way you face it. I could not get it to hit anything but whatever was on my right. Is this the way it is supposed to be or am I a huge newb (Which is entirely possible!)?

The story of the game itself could be fleshed out as to why this is a last stand, but it really does feel like it fit the theme of the Jam well.

I honestly was struggling with whether or not to rate this higher because I did like it overall quite a bit, but the silly axe only going one way frustrated me a bit.

Oh! I noticed I could drop the dice on each other at the beginning after rolling them and it would change things. Were we supposed to be able to do that? I was trying to switch the dice around, not stack them on top of one another. However, I could separate them again, with no problem. This might be another interesting way to affect starting choices if unintentional after the Jam.

I would love to see more of this game developed.

I felt they spawned a bit too fast. A slower spawn rate with escalation over time would help give longer game play.

It would also be kewl if something interesting happened when you touched a door or the red areas of the floor. Perhaps something like "You can not escape this way!" Or traps. Or buffs to help you survive longer.

Very nice!

Really a solid game for just ten days! It was fun enough I kept playing until I lost. I admit, I was unsure what I was suppose to do after collecting things and being told "Last Stand!". Battle it out with the carts? Escape somehow? Did I keep missing the checkout? The "bump" mechanic did not work well for me, but I admit to not being the best of gamers. I just like spending time with friends and family and having fun!

Sure! I will check everyone's game out (That is here at the moment). Here is the game my hubby, myself, and our sons worked on: Global Patriots

I like the story and it's potential! I know you got started late, so much of it is not yet implemented. Still, you got a lot done. I look forward to seeing more added after the Jam. I was unsure how this was a "Last Stand", but at the same time, I can see how your interpretation is valid. I like seeing people take a concept and change things up :)

So far this is the best game I have played for this GameDev TV Jam!

It met the Jam theme, had some interesting gameplay, the graphics were decent, and I had fun with the choices.

I did not hear any sound, including music or sound effects. Not enough to be a detriment, but I feel if some were added (without becoming overwhelming) it would add a lot of additional enjoyment to the game.

The story was intuitive, but I would love to see a bit of an opening story before gameplay begins.

Overall, very nice!

I liked this game! I was a bit uncertain about the theme "Last Stand" and how it fit into the game, but it was mentioned. There was a bit of a story.

I think this was pretty kewl and I could see this being turned into a time consumer haha. Keep working on it :)

I feel this game has a lot of promise, So I hope work on it is continued after the Jam closes. I do not feel the story fit the Jam theme, though. With that said,  I could tell there was a story and it intrigues me where it will all go!

This game is indeed charming and has a unique flair to it! The connection to the “Last Stand” theme is not immediately apparent, but that’s the beauty of interpretation in gaming. Perhaps you could explain more? Keep working on your game, and you could create a very interesting game. Keep up the great work! 👏

I already posted about the below, but for the purpose of the Jam, I will repost my observations here:

I met my match and now I’m stuck running in circles while the onslaught continues - quite the spectacle, isn’t it? Despite this, I’m genuinely impressed with the polished EQ-style graphics and the arena setup. The sound effects could use some tweaking, but overall, it’s an enjoyable experience!

What caught my attention was the game launching in a window without requiring a download - a feature we had on our wishlist but couldn’t implement due to time constraints. Kudos for that! Looking forward to more from this game. Keep up the great work!

Added: I assigned a score of “2” to the storyline, primarily due to the lack of context about my character’s presence and the identity of these relentless adversaries. However, the mere setting of a coliseum-style arena did hint at a narrative, preventing me from rating it as low as “1”. I look forward to seeing the story evolve in future updates.
