I am not going to lie, I was a tad confused about how to play the game, but I slowly got the hang of it over time. Still, I am kinda confused by my overall objective to win. I liked the graphics and music and also thought that it was based around positivity (I think?). Overall, a pretty decent game with a creative method of delivering the wholesome message!

First of all, this is a visually stunning game looking as if it was a living children's book. Just looking at all of the nice, hand-crafted artwork made me feel cozy. I am unsure if it is due to my computer screen being at a higher resolution or the native export itself, but it can be hard to see my cursor at times. Combine this with the somewhat slow movement, and I can find it hard to tell if I actually have a grasp on the object. The gameplay is fun, but I wish there was a bit more. The game's positivity is exemplified through its art which makes it feel just at home with this year's theme, and I also admire that you themed it to Christmas as well. Overall, this game is beautiful with some solid gameplay and a definite contender in this game jam!
While I feel like the visuals can clash at times, I love how much detail was put into each level and how much stuff to look at there is. I could not wait to see the next section just to see the other parts of this wacky and vibrant world. It does pretty well at conveying the theme of positivity (even giving slight jabs at COVID, I believe!). The controls can feel stiff sometimes and it may be hard to tell where there are and are not platforms, but after a couple of minutes, it can be easy to get used to. Overall, a very solid entry that I enjoyed playing!
This was a great idea! I love the story that was slowly told. Still, I wish there was a bit more incentive to try and fit things you already had in your schedule, but I know this defeats the purpose of the game. Overall, I enjoyed the little message that was conveyed and think its super important to everyone, especially those that often participate in Jams!
1. Thank you! I will try and tighten up the controls a bit.
2.-4. I should have made the walls a different color. Since the theme revolved around the original gameboy, I kinda wanted to stick to the original 4-color puke-green palette. I understand what you mean though.
5. I had plans for a gameboy power up that would allow you to shoot, but unfortunately my Cal II homework was merciless. I hope to add this after the jam :)
6. I actually did not think of this. I could probably use this in tandem with roads that cut off for a bit.
Thanks so much for the review!
While simplistic, the gameplay loop is addictive. It would have been nice to able to control some of the randomness at times, but then I guess that would make it too easy. Very good, though. I am making a devlog video and wanted some footage from the jam. Would you mind if I used your game if I gave you credit?
Actually, most of my trouble came from the idea itself. For some reason, my code would not work, so nearly half of my time spent was in the main mechanic's bug itself.
Sorry if the specific ones ended up not being completely taken; the way that I checked for a win state is completely arbitrary to the actual final state and looks more at the arrays that may or may not be bugged in the level. I had to leave it like that due to a lack of time.
Thank you for your kind words and playtesting!
