It was very fun to play, but difficult with the touchpad on my laptop haha. I like the idea of this game. I think my biggest issue is the people shooting down from above with no indication. It felt unfair to me when I couldn’t see the enemy and then a bullet came quickly with little time to react. Very good job!
I am posting a slightly updated version, with a hint on the bad end. I didn’t realize how cryptic it was when I made it the first time. I’m glad you liked it! I am likely going to expand this game and flesh out the world more than I had time to. You have to go back to the person asking about the bridge after examining the bridge.
Really fun game and idea! Obviously, sound effects, music, menus, etc. would help improve the game, but what you have here is good. My only complaint is that the controls the way they are set up on the keyboard are a little awkward. I think button mapping would really benefit this game. For example, I would have preferred to jump with W and shoot with Enter, and I’m sure others would have different opinions. If you changed that I would have no complaints about the gameplay. Also, aside from the colors in the background, I feel like I did not get where this was neon-themed. Great job, one of my favorites to play so far!
I found the art style to be really charming, I liked it a lot. The gameplay is fun as well, but I think some of the enemies, 2 in particular, were a little unfair to deal with. The square guys spawned randomly, and sometimes they would just spawn right on me, and the homing ones move a little too fast in my opinion. I also think that maybe the boss should have been at the end instead of ending it on a normal level. I also was a little confused about what the spaceship does. I think this game has a LOT of potential, I look forward to seeing if you decide to continue it beyond the jam! Great job!
I like what you were doing with this, it a neat idea, and I really love how the game starts. That was so creative! I got stuck on the second level. I think it is a little difficult to understand why things happen. So for example, I didn't understand why standing on the green platforms let me see the red, or why I sometimes jumped high with the blue. I think if you make sections demonstrating each color on its own before putting them together it will make it much easier to understand, but it has a lot of potential! :)
No, there is nothing else I would change, I think it's great! If you can make the visibility better while keeping the angle the same that would definitely solve my issue with it. Maybe one very minor thing is you can have the pick-up button also skip the intro, instead of the close button. That didn't catch my eye for a few seconds.
Awesome game, the art, music, gameplay, and story are all phenomenal. The only complaint I have is that I kept accidentally hitting the reset button while grabbing things. You might want to make it so you hold down that button to reset it. I especially loved all the text effects, very professional looking.
Oh jeez, so the invisible wall is supposed to happen but it's also supposed to just close the game, so I guess I should have done that better. There was originally a reason I had the text linger, but I didn't get around to putting it in, so I probably should have taken it out. I also probably could have hinted to the solution upon a fail, which I think I will change and reupload after the jam. Thank you for all your feedback though I really appreciate it! :)
This is a great game. I can tell it is very Contra inspired and that is a compliment. The movement is unique in my opinion, and fun! The only thing I can say I didn't like is that there were no checkpoints, but I understand why you did that. It is just frustrating when trying to play a bunch of these Jam games because I don't want to spend to long on it. I think the game over, start at the beginning thing is something about Contra that does not age as well as the rest of the game, so maybe consider adding an easy mode. Not that you have to, that is just a suggestion. Great job!
I absolutely LOVE the art style you went with, suits the game great. The idea of the game is also great, although puzzles aren't exactly my thing I can appreciate that this is a well thought-out puzzle. Personally, I think that a completely top-down style would have complemented this kind of puzzle more than the quarter view you did. I don't think it was really fun to lose track of cables or be unsure if you were going to grab them. Really great though!
Really fun! I love the vaporwave background and art in general. My favorite thing is what you did with the shooting, I think there is a lot of potentials to do cool stuff with that. My biggest gripe with the game is that some things felt unclear as to whether or not they were dangerous i.e. the enemies blowing up when they die came across to me like they were bombs, and the blue laser looked more friendly than the red. But overall really great!
